Pros

All the coworkers I've had are friendly and helpful. Most units have a strong team spirit. Patient ratios are manageable, and you are usually given the lightest possible load when made to float, which isn't too often. There are great benefits (although they are for full time employees only), lots of training opportunities for new grads, plus education reimbursement if you or your family decides to go to college at VCU.

Cons

PARKING. 50-100 bucks a month if you are even approved, cheaper to walk/bike/carpool. Salary is tiered and non-negotiable. Inner city hospital with sometimes less than pleasant patient population. As a teaching hospital, working with residents can be frustrating at times. Janitorial services and meal tray workers slack on the job and leave work for CNAs and RNs.
