Pros

VTEX is an amazing company. A lot of intelligent and hard-working people work here. You will be free to pursue the projects you see fit and have the space to share them. You will learn A LOT. The company cultivates an informal, laid-back, and very flexible environment.

Cons

The company is slowly falling out of grace... There is a saturation of middle management plus a lot of back and forth about what team is responsible for the creation and improvement of processes that the company desperately needs. Sometimes, the company feels more like a club than an actual enterprise, especially Growth. In a sense, you need to be at the right place, at the right time, and with the right crew to get where you want to go. I think this is true for most corporations but VTEX is especially high-schooly. In some situations, your delivery just will not matter at all.

Probably the worst company I've ever worked for

Pros

The people are nice. Or at least they were, before they were fired en masse.

Cons

- The leadership is all over the place, and they sometimes seem to be flipping a coin before deciding who to fire next; - Unhealthy idea that everybody at the company needs to become an engineer; - The product is not ready for the European market, and the higher ups don't seem to really care (no timeline in place for local product enhancements); - Clueless team management, where people are moved from one functional team to another with no real logic behind it (I saw someone having 5 completely different roles within one year, without ever asking personally to change team); - Arrogant approach to the market - just because you are a market leader back at home in Brazil, that doesn't make you automatically one in Europe. Bad attitude towards the market, "God complex" of "they would be lucky to be our clients" (spoiler alert, it doesn't work).

Pros

Nice office, many talented coworkers, a chance good chance to grow with the company, opportunity to make impactful decisions and projects, lots of freedom most of the time, mostly 'flat' hierarchy, top notch technologies.

Cons

The amount of work can get overwhelming for some specific team members, due to ever increasing responsibilities. This does not happen to everyone - and that may be the problem. For backend developers, emergency calls may happen from time to time. Reducing their frequency may be part of your job. Dealing with stress is necessary, but nothing out of this world.
