Pros

Excellent health insurance, great PTO flexibility, strong emphasis on person and professional development and leadership development. Great culture, great team.

Cons

I subtracted 1 star because compensation could be better for non-execs - this is a known issue and has a strong impact on retention.

Pros

Meet awesome people, employee housing, a locker right on the mountain, free ski pass to pretty much all of Vail Resort mountains/

Cons

I moved out here for a season and I will say it was a great time, however if I could give advise to someone thinking about moving out here It would: DO NOT GO MOUNTAIN OPERATIONS. instructing pays better and has higher job satisfaction. Mountain ops is generally just labor/menial (shoveling show, standing around outside in the cold, scanning people's passes). In addition, management treats you like you're disposable even though they are usually understaffed. Mountain ops turnover rate is around 85%. Also very limited career opportunities - many people who have been working in mountain ops for years still don't get salary.

Pros

Easy to get hired, co-workers are usually fun, interesting people. opportunities to learn how a medium corporation operates, great ski resort operations experience

Cons

Low pay, extremely high turnover rate, very corporate, managers are often more interested in moving up the corporate ladder than being excellent, promotions often involve moving to a different state/ski area, large disconnect between employees in the corporate office and on-site at various resorts, company is far more interested in the shareholders than in employee development or morale. Standard corporate stuff.

Thanks for your feedback. The cross-resort Lift Operations Best Practices group is working together on a universal progression path that will outline the skills and expectations for growth within the department. Regarding low pay, this is an area we continue to work on as well, including a discretionary bonus being awarded to all non-management employees to recognize their hard work and contribution to a successful 2015/2016 season.
