Pros

This was a company that I didn't see myself being at more than a year. It turned that I made it past 17 years! In the beginning this was a great company to work for. The benefits were great, the atmosphere was good. I loved going to work and seeing all the friendly faces from day to day! This in a way was home away from home. I enjoyed what I did. You could learn so much from your day to day job. This company was true to its word when it came to family. I never had issues when I needed to take care of family first, then it all went downhill

Cons

After the last few years you could feel the changes coming but not to the extent of what it became and what is still going on now! You feel like after giving so many years to a company that you don't get treated like your nothing anymore! You don't matter. They make you feel like what you do day to day is nothing. You are replacable and I guess that is true with contractors or the younger people who get paid a lot less and they know no better. You go to work and do your job! You can go above and beyond to still end up on the outside looking in! I did nothing wrong so why am I sitting home with no job like so many others are now? Oh, revamping the company, ok if you say so. I seen so many people lose their jobs including myself over the last 2 years. You can get pulled from your current position and told here is the deal...either you pass your series testing or your without a job. Processing has loss so many people because of this. Other people who weren't in processing to start out with but put there and also told either you pass or you have no job! You try to find another position in the company but your fighting with 20-30 other people for it! So many people are going through this! This is all crazy to me. Along time ago I would have told people to get a job at Vanguard but no longer would I do that! The people that I know that are still there are no longer happy. Why should you go to work everyday and feel that you are no longer appreciated? You feel like there is a target on your back and wondering if you may be the next person without a job. Starting over now with finding a job is horrible. The pay is like minimum wage compared to Vanguard. I just smh and pray for my friends that are still there!! Vanguard you have to do better!

Pros

Great benefits, including a 4% 401k match and 10% non-elective contribution to your retirement plan. Access to a health club in many of it's buildings as well.

Cons

Manufactured drama by superiors to make mountains out of molehills, especially when you hit the 10 year anniversary. As soon as I hit my 10 year anniversary, they started targeting me and nit picking my work. I immediately got my first bad review. That increased my stress levels and caused me to start having migraines. This "managing out" is not productive because Crewmembers simply give up trying to chase the unattainable (think, Office Space) and begin to ignore the drama and do their own thing.

Pros

Good work-life balance Everyone at all levels know this job sucks so you can joke about it Licensing

Cons

They never told anyone about how it’s just a miserable call center environment. It was explained to me that we’d basically be assistants to advisors and maybe take 10 calls per day. I took closer to 50 calls every day and at least 85% were people complaining about paperwork or the website. You get licensed to have people call in and argue with you about paperwork. Nobody tells you anything about paperwork in training so once you start you’re just thrown to the wolves and clients are even worse to deal with The website is awful Leadership is really annoying to deal with. Team leaders never want to help you out and deal with pissed off clients. They like to go to meetings with each other to beat each other off talking about how great they are. They tell you that to get promoted you need to show that you care and get involved, but when you try to get involved they tell you they need you on the phones because the clients need you Lots of bs gets fed to employees about how “the clients need you” and “the clients are the main priority” but if you have a call run in to your lunch and then take your full hour of lunch you get talked to for “not being there for the clients” and those minutes you’re finishing lunch count against you The main thing that gets you through the day is mapping out the time you have off the phone. What kind of awful morale is that, if the main motivation is finding time to not do your job? This job was explained to me to be really great about teaching you finance skills and be really rewarding. The most rewarding feeling was when I hung up after successfully not jumping out a window after explaining how to click “continue” to the 6th person over the age of 70 in 2 hours You can’t afford expensive alcohol to deal with all the criticisms listed above on the Vanguard salary
