Pros

Vanguard is a place where hard work is rewarded and professional growth is strongly encouraged. Overall compensation (pay/benefits) do not get much better. Training is above average to very good. Vanguard holds itself to very high standards and generally meets or exceeds all of these standards.

Cons

Base salary is not great but the partnership program and benefits more than make up for this. Depending on the business area, training may leave something to be desired but improvements are constantly being made. Employees are not reprimanded as long as they do nothing "wrong" even if they are detrimental to morale. It seems as though some members of management may give into those who are detrimental to morale in the interest of avoiding conflict.

Pros

It is a great place to start your career and get experience in financial industry. Excellent training program. Benefits used to be really good too, but I hear "the low cost provider" began saving on that aspect of the benefits as well.

Cons

Low pay. If you started working before 2004 you would get a very nice partnership (close to 30% of the base salary), but after 2004 company has reaised base a little bit and significantly decreased partnership units. Management "brainwashes" newcomers with the "best place to work" conastantly and refuse to hire former emplyees back, even if they left on good terms.

Pros

The company is a great place to start your career. Vanguard is more of a stepping stone for other opportunities, however, than a place to make a career at. Hours worked per week is quite low compared with the rest of the industry. The name looks great if you are looking to apply to professional school after you gain experience. If one does decide to stay and put time into the company, MBA programs and other industry designations may be paid for. There is also in house CFP training for those that are recommended.

Cons

The work environment is uber conservative and toned down. Employee feedback, if the company deems it strong enough to make a difference, takes months or longer to implement. The limited workweek means that you are paid less than others in the industry, even though dollars paid per hour are very much in line. Corporate lingo "action items, outside the box thinking, etc." is used way too frequently, and there are too many acronyms to learn for each corporate initiative.
