Pros

Vanguard does a great job of training its representatives. It is a great place to start a career or end a career, for individuals in the middle it isn't always the best place to advance your career. Dependable ethical financial firm, no history of lay offs even in a down market.

Cons

Vanguard offers many opportunities to move laterally, however, it can be difficult to advance rather quickly. There have been many qualified individuals, with degrees, who had been with the firm, performed very well, who have been passed over for the individual selected fresh from college designated for a supervisory position or higher level position. I personally don't have a problem with this practice in moderation, however, this seems to be the trend. If you were not hand selected for a specific position you will have to work twice as hard to achieve it.

Pros

Outstanding reputation. Proud to work for such an ethical company. Outstanding training program and solid bonus plan. Good benefit package.

Cons

Low pay, and obvious favoritism of upper management. Some old-school principals are from the "boys club" and are career ruining.
