A fun, kind company that is working its way through growing pains

Pros

Vecna Robotics is a startup that is not hellbent on running people into the ground. There is a long tradition of treating our employees with respect and to talk about things openly with each other. This is the only company that I have worked at in which we regularly talk about the importance of being kind to one another. This something that I have tried to instill to all my team members. Vecna has also provided me with real mentorship and professional development opportunities that have been transformative to me personally. I like the people I work with. I laugh a lot at work -- that is very important to me. I look forward to coming into the office to be with my co-workers, because I know that they are ready to support me (as I am ready to help and support them.) Also, the health benefits are fantastic -- Blue Cross / Blue Shield, no monthly co-pay, the company directly contributes into a flexible spending account to cover the out of pocket expenses. I have family of four and I literally pay nothing for high quality health care. I don't even need to worry about how much (or how little) to contribute in a FSA, because it is not my money.

Cons

We are a startup and we have typical startup problems. We don't have enough people to do everything and we have struggled to transition from a small group of engineers who were great at making prototypes, to a company that developed a few products to several customers, to finally a company that can truly scale to build lots of robots. These transitions are significant and challenging. It's messy sometimes, but it all originates from having a lot of orders to fulfill. That's not the worse problem to have. We can't change everything that is wrong overnight and trying to fix the plane while you're flying it is tricky.

Strong leadership with a consistent vision

Pros

Vecna Robotics has a great vision, and a strong leadership team executing on that vision. We are able to work on exciting projects that make a positive impact on well known customers. The opportunity to innovate is strong, and you get to work with intelligent and creative co-workers. There is a strong culture of accountability, and the organization is accountable to the employees.

Cons

Can't think of anything. They have been providing good training, and great perks. A stable company in an chaotic market.

Pros

Benefits and ping-pong, I guess

Just received word that yet more employees were laid off, which makes this the third instance of layoffs in the last few years. I for one am currently seeking new opportunities and recommending my employees to do the same. Back in October, when they carelessly laid off 40+ employees, the CEO looked us all in our eyes and said there would be no other layoffs in the foreseeable future. This latest development is no surprise considering the company is hemorrhaging funds left and right and making other poor financial decisions. I've spoken to many colleagues since, and they, along with myself plan to look for other career opportunities with companies that have much better long-term potential. The company has also been losing major contracts due to multiple false claims, fallacies, and blatant maladroitness . This shows absolute ineptitude from upper management who seem to care more about their image than delivering a product promise. It will be very clear how inefficient the company is when all of their annual contracts fail to be renewed due to their ignorance, ineptitude, and incompetence. Just so we're clear, you only have one star because zero wasn't an option.

We always appreciate the feedback of current and former employees, however, when a review is completely false, we have to call it out. Vecna Robotics is not having layoffs, to the contrary. We continue to hire and thrive in the market, bringing in numerous new customers in the last 6 months as well as maintaining 100% customer retention. We understand that when the economy feels unstable, employee departures are viewed with extra scrutiny. Our leadership team remains steadfast in their commitment to Vecna Robotics employees, customers and the company. Some details: • Our CEO’s commitment to a one-time company restructuring last summer remains true – there have been no additional layoffs since that event. • Our CFO is highly experienced in the nuances of start-up funding and has worked to ensure our financial runway remains secure. • Our CTO and SVP of Customer Operations are dedicated to providing a safe and reliable product evidenced by securing new customers and retention of existing ones. Our company remains committed to providing exceptional employee and customer experience. And the results are clear: employee engagement scores remain high, peer reviews of our technology are positive and customers are growing their automation fleets. We are excited about what 2023 will bring.
