Great learning opportunity in a growing company and a fun environment.

Pros

I have really enjoyed my time here. I was brought in when Verisys was making some big process and personnel changes and have been able to be a part of re-shaping and improving this company. The work environment has been drastically improving and from what I understand it was pretty fun and laid back before I was brought on. I have also been impressed with the benefits packages and time off offered. Verisys is built on family values and the 8-5 Monday - Friday work week. Very rarely have I, or anyone else I work with, been asked to work overtime to finish a project. Also, instead of accumulating sick/vacation/PTO time off separately, everything is accumulated at the same time which adds up to 1 day off per paycheck plus 10 paid holidays a year! I have also been satisfied with the benefit packages they have to offer employees. Verisys is a very flat company management-wise and all management, including the owners, encourage employees to come to them with ideas for the company or any concerns any employee may have. As Verisys continues to grow there are many opportunities to climb the company ladder or get experience in multiple areas of the company. Whenever a new position opens up Verisys looks for internal candidates before looking outside. This gives each employee the chance to move to different positions and gain experience while providing increasing value to the company as an employee. Last but not least Verisys ushers in each month with a bagel morning and celebrates birthdays each month with a pizza party for lunch. This is a great time to socialize with co-workers and friends. There are also other lunch/holiday activities that Verisys sponsors for employees.

Cons

There is not really a process in place for Verisys to release products to outside customers. This has created a lot of chaos in how Verisys deals with customers and how employees develop and release potential products to the outside world. The process is slowly being felt out and cemented down but in the mean time it creates a lot of stress that could otherwise be avoided.

Pros

I feel like I am doing something good for the general public working here.

Cons

The work environment is toxic. Gossip is rampant. From all aspects of the company. HR and supervisors discuss who and why people are fired on the floor. It makes me worried that management is talking about me like this. Working on the production team is probably the worst. One of the supervisors never works a full 8 hours. Comes in at 8:30 takes an hour lunch and leaves at 3. My team recently had to stay very late and the supervisor left at 3:00 while our team stayed until almost 9. I can hear constant gossip at this supervisors desk.

Pros

The purpose of the work we do is almost noble -- to ensure that healthcare providers are worthy of the very important jobs they hold, that they won't endanger or cheat the people who have trusted them with their lives. That means a lot to me, and inspires me to put my very best foot forward. It is a business that is unlike others, and is growing, so creativity and ideas are welcome, and problems are opportunities to find resolutions. Supervisors and management are determined to be fair, communicative, and welcome questions, while working to find the balance between compassion and efficiency. The attitude is professional, yet warm. Benchmarks of performance are clear and reasonable, and no one is fired for poor performance without warning and multiple attempts to define what is getting in the way and chances to improve. Generous "Paid Time Off" accrual after 90 days, even for part time employees, who are also eligible for other benefits as well. Women clearly have equal opportunities for promotion here, and on-the-job training advances many into areas they never knew they'd be taking on. Pay is considerably better than other office jobs in the area. The company is not looking to eventually outsource the work or sell to a less considerate public-trading company.

Cons

The biggest challenge is handling change as better ways of doing things are implemented, or as the growth causes departments, responsibilities and leadership to move around. I've also seen issues arrive when employees mistake a warm atmosphere for a casual approach to work habits. There is lots of work to be done, and some employees are slow to understand how efficient they must be, which can cause frustration from both sides. Because many employees have less experience in the workplace, they are challenged by the balance of high quality and quantity that is eventually expected. Training is an evolving area, which means new people get an intensive initial training, and must also understand that directions that are given will be refined and even changed once they are past the initial training stage.
