Pros

The pay in most areas was generally good. Competitive or above average for laborers and drivers; competitive pay for management (but becoming less competitive as time goes on). Coworkers work well together.

Cons

Since the Unisource/xpedx merger a few years ago the work environment has been getting worse and worse. The new upper management teams brought in don't seem to know what they are doing. Safety, while preached by upper management, is blatantly disregarded in practice by them. They also do not follow proper safety processes which are leading to employee injuries with questionable reactions by management to the situations. Advancement opportunities are few and far between anymore with the new teams often bringing in people from the outside they know without even considering current employees. The morale of the employees has been taking a hit as employees are being treated more and more like machines. Overtime rules have changed so employees aren't getting premium pay like they did in the past. Fewer laborers and drivers are in departments which is driving up overtime for those still there but not getting compensated for it like they used to. Vacation rules have also changed to take away flexibility for the employees. Any type of perks, no matter how small, that employees used to have are being slowly eliminated. Management tends to seem like they are interested in employee concerns but then do what they want anyway. Management has been coached in the past few months in management only meetings on ways to word conversations and stage meetings to have the appearance of concern to put the employees at ease; or to deliver bad news or cuts while avoiding key 'negative' phrasing. The atmosphere in the company is becoming so toxic that good, long time employees from the labor/driver level all the way through middle management have been leaving the company at alarming rates in sales, customer service, and operations. If the employee exodus wasn't evidence enough, sales have been down and expenses up from poor management and unsatisfied customers. This is reflected in the drooping stock price over the past 3+ months.

Pros

Flexible schedule, positive team atmosphere within my group, and great immediate leadership.

Cons

Mid-level management all the way up through the executive team is unpredictable and untrustworthy. They promote positive culture and atmosphere, but their actions speak louder than words...

Pros

From a business perspective very few. Still many nice people working here but suspect most are actively looking for jobs.

Cons

CEO couldn't accept that Unisource was superior to xpedx in Customer Service and Supply Chain. A distribution company that is lacking in these two areas will not proposer. Need proof compare the EBIT of the two companies prior to the merger, Unisource generated more EBIT on a couple of billion (yes with a B) in sales. Two and a half years later the lackadaisical attitude toward these two areas will continue to haunt the company. We've already lost numerous great leaders in both of these areas.
