Customer has been forgotten

Pros

Great coworkers who suffered through the insanity and constant mind boggling anti sales changes with me. Had to stop eating lunch with them though because it became a lunch complaining about Veritiv. It became difficult, frustrating and depressing.

Cons

I was a long term sales rep. Successful and award winning. I left because Veritiv forgot the customer. Veritiv tells the customer how they will purchase. “You will take one delivery per week. Yes Mr Customer we did deliver the wrong item to you and we will pick it up when it is extremely convenient for us. Oh Mr customer, I know the rest of the industry is not having a price increase but in order for you to continue to purchase from Veritiv, we are going to shove this fake price increase down your throat”. It became extremely obvious with the multiple hiring of younger sales reps and limited training of them, that Veritiv was shifting the bulk of their business to national accounts. Get big national accounts and put in lesser paid individuals to manage the accounts. It is a strategy. It could work. National accounts are multi year commitments. You only have to prove your worth to them at the very beginning and the very end of the contract. The years in between can be a nightmare for the customer and it will be forgotten come contract renewals

We appreciate your review and are disappointed that you felt you had a negative experience during your employment at Veritiv. As you know, the integration of two legacy distribution companies and a changing industry comes with numerous challenges. The Veritiv Journey required some considerable changes, especially with a move to a more competitive and responsible strategic model. Maintaining proper inventory and creating the right compensation models come with that. Veritiv is hardly a sinking ship, but is a company well positioned for the future and is a growing company that is perfect for those who are ready to face the challenges and be part of success in the coming years.

Bad corporate culture with poor leadership

Pros

Work/Like balance is pretty good.

Cons

Poor upper management. They run the company like it's an 80's corporation, very top down. Management says they want people's input into new ways of doing things but when suggestions are given people are just told "this isn't how things are done here." They just tell you how to do things and are resistant to change. Management's favorite way to try to control costs and margins is to take away benefits (health and other) and "perks" from all employees rather than change up the sales teams, structure and commissions. Can't make money if the sales team isn't selling. CEO still likes to fly using an expensive private plane charter service though! Salaries remain stagnant with poor year over year pay increases (2% - 2.5%) given that only take effect half way into the year. Yet another way the company tries to "control costs" without actually going to the root of the issue. CEO and upper management still enjoy large bonuses though! Onboarding is nonexistent and there is no good training given into the company's structure or the industry as a whole.
