Pros

I joined Verkada over 2.5 years ago when there were only about 20-30 employees in the sales department. I have had the amazing opportunity to watch the organization grow across all departments in my time here. After relocating from NYC for my previous job in Finance, I was more than excited to take the risk on an up-and-coming startup and join the tech sales world. I can happily say that joining Verkada was the best decision I've ever made. I joined the company as an Account Executive. Without a tech sales background, I was very thankful for the opportunity and faith that our VP of Sales had in me to be successful in the role early on. I was later promoted into my current role as a Sales Manager. Verkada has provided me with incredible opportunities for growth/promotion, creativity within my role, friendship amongst my co-workers, and mentorship from our inspirational leaders and sponsors. More recently, I was provided with an international assignment that I'm very excited to be given the opportunity to take on. It's not every day that you have a company that is so in touch with the people/personalities that they can choose positions that you will be best suited for. It's not only an honor, but I'm looking forward to growing the team and culture. Senior leadership/executives are very approachable, and not to mention fun, including the CEO, Executive Chairman of the Board/Founder, VP of Sales, VP of Product, and especially the VP of People. I feel lucky to be able to say that our leadership team is not only invested in my professional growth, but my personal growth as well. Our VP of People and VP of Sales were monumental in helping my fellow co-chair and I launch the Women at Verkada community last July. Since then we have added an additional co-chair to support the growth of the community as we've significantly grown our female presence in the organization as well as the allies that support us. We host numerous events from educational speakers to get-togethers outside of the office to provide a safe/fun space for us all to get to know one another and support each other's careers. Overall, not only does our engineering team build unbelievable products that I am excited to sell, but I could not be more grateful for the opportunities I have been afforded at Verkada. On top of being proud to work here, the Verkada team has become my West Coast family.

Cons

We are still in startup mode and we're continuing to grow at a very fast pace so there tends to be change quite frequently. This can be exciting for those who welcome change, but takes some adjusting if you're coming from a more stagnant environment.

Pros

I joined Verkada a year ago because I wanted to learn what it takes to be an effective operator at a company going through hyper growth. What I love about this place is that from the moment I joined, I've been given huge amounts of autonomy and responsibility to make my own decisions on which projects to take on, which processes to refine, etc., based on my analysis and understanding of the business. Every executive that I work with is incredibly approachable, and I regularly find myself in brainstorming sessions with execs thinking through better ways to run our business - this is a pretty amazing learning opportunity. I think Verkada is a true meritocracy, and I am constantly pushing to get to the next level and have an impact. I'm excited to come into work every day, and that's largely a function of the people and the culture. There's an energy in the office. In the year I've been here, I've seen us come a long way from a culture that undoubtedly had its issues to one that fosters an inclusive workspace. Verkada has a number of community groups that do a great job creating a culture that focuses on more than just our business results. When the surge in AAPI hate crimes happened a few months ago, the multicultural community group help an open session to give employees the chance to talk about how the events were impacting them. It was pretty inspiring to see the team come together and support each other through that event. Management has been supportive through COVID, providing in office tests every day and creating a workspace that felt safe to be in. We also offered free walk-in testing to the San Mateo community, something I'm super proud of.

Cons

Like most hyper-growth startups, the pace of work can be exhausting. You will learn an immense amount here, but you will also work a lot. While I personally prefer being in the office to being remote, I recognize it's not for everyone. We foster an in-person culture and we expect our employees to be in office.
