Spend 2-3 hours a day driving around Boston without compensation for any damages to your car while juggling a caseload of 10-15 clients that you are required to meet with in person every single week and accompany to places like Boston Housing Authority, Social Security, the gym, the grocery store, the courthouse, the RMV and spending hours with them in these places. Clients often have terrible hygiene and will sneeze and get smoke fumes all over your car— sometimes even bed bugs which you are required to “support” them through by helping them clean their apartment out, at risk to your own health. You are treated like a personal assistant or taxi by clients on the regular and are often expected to endure emotional abuse, yelling, crying, and anger directed towards you for “not doing enough” for or with clients. You are often put in situations with risky or violent clients and expected to just get out or de-escalate the situation if you’re uncomfortable with little to no back up. Did I mention you will only be paid $2 an hour more than a Whole Foods cashier for all of this? On top of that, there’s endless amounts of redundant paperwork, client referrals and care coordination with psychiatrists who think they’re better than you. Plus good luck dealing with parking downtown!
