Pros

Better benefits including health and 401K. Friendly colleagues.

Cons

Talking about Houston site, processing department. One of the worst management in a company with such a scale. Better benefits but worse compensation since almost every processor works long time. Many of them work 60 hours a week without compensation (aka project based). About 70% internationals, bad communication and worst time and project management. Almost every project runs into time crisis. Sometimes waiting for results/writing reports even during client meeting/reporting. In such a geophysics company, management prefer any applicants except those with geophysics background and make them work extremely hard. You know what I mean. No formal documentation, leave alone software development guidelines and coding styles. Most code was written by unprofessionals without any comments. Almost everything formatted in PPT. What a joke!

- an okay job for fresh grad - compensation is above the avg in houston - free lunch, drink - company activities

Cons

- company culture is terrible, be prepared for long working hours - cannot see any career op as a software developer - maintenance the existing code rather than development

Always recharge yourself

Pros

Benefits was good but in doubt as company size shrinking. Great people to work with, Houston office is full of Masters and Ph.Ds.

Cons

A company full of domain specific knowledge and dead knowledge. Micro management and customer centric philosophy twisted to be an yes man to leadership and customers, in sacrifice of employees career growth. Btw, there is no career path there. The above two combined into a culture of pushing people to become a battery that never get recharged and only suitable for a specific industry. Think twice and be very clear what you want to get from this job and never stop recharging yourself, even though it is hard.
