Pros

Great place to do meaningful work and take on as much responsibility as you want/can handle. Incredible people to work with. Incredibly smart and driven teammates with no egos. Plenty of unsolved challenges that make coming to work every day invigorating and fun.

Cons

Not much. Good place to start a career, or for mid-level. May not be ideal for more senior leaders. Could use a bit more transparency from leadership.

Meaningful work, HUGE mission

Pros

The first thing the struck me when I joined Virta was the huge and inspiring mission. Virta is focusing on REVERSING type 2 diabetes, and our patients LOVE us. It's incredibly gratifying to work for a company (and a cause) that is so meaningful. Virta is at an exciting phase of growth, and getting great traction from some of the largest health plans and employers in the country. People who join the company tend to be very mission-driven. There are boatloads of career growth opportunities that will only multiply as the company grows.

Cons

Virta is entering startup "adolescence", and the transition has been tough for some people. In the last few months we've moved from a completely flat / kumbaya-singing org to more structured "leveling" and hierarchy, which is appropriate for our stage, but has not been an easy transition for everyone.

Pros

I have been a part of a handful of mission driven companies before, and this is the first one that consistently invests in truly doing what is best to achieve the goal of reversing diabetes for 100 million people by 2025. I have been in meetings where the decision being made is centered around "what would be best for our patients"-- a testament to the desire to really serve those for whom we are building the company. Management takes the mission seriously and is consistently open to feedback from teammates on the best way to solve problems. the work is hard, but incredibly fulfilling. I get to see a lot of the patient feedback and am so proud of the impact that we have. I look forward to going to work and partnering with really kind, smart, mission-driven people to solve a major issue in the world.

Cons

The work can be challenging, and I think each employee has to figure out the right balance for themselves. Also, there is always a lag between when we are working on something and when it might get built into the technology, so that can be tough.
