      - As an engineer, I get exposure to a variety of disciplines. I work directly with physicians, nurse practitioners, health coaches, and scientific researchers! It’s a breath of fresh air for a tech worker - Great work life balance - The people are a joy to work with - Culture of “No ego.” The people really care about teaching and learning from one another. - Very active diversity and inclusion working group - well-funded - If you work at Virta, you will literally be saving lives. It’s so difficult to find a tech company that is truly helping people in need. And at no cost! We’re covered by insurance

      - typical startup growing pains. Get used to change - people’s lives are in your hands. You can’t cut corners

      Pros

      The work we do to help transform lives of people with type 2 diabetes is very rewarding. The Virta Treatment itself is incredibly effective. Many employees at Virta are intelligent, emotionally mature, and supportive teammates.

      Cons

      Leaders in upper management verbally emphasize the important of our company values of being people-first, taking ownership, and maintaining transparency; however, they do the opposite of exemplifying our company values in their actions and decisions on a regular basis.

      Mission Driven Company tackling one of the world's biggest problems

      Pros

      I have been a part of a handful of mission driven companies before, and this is the first one that consistently invests in truly doing what is best to achieve the goal of reversing diabetes for 100 million people by 2025. I have been in meetings where the decision being made is centered around "what would be best for our patients"-- a testament to the desire to really serve those for whom we are building the company. Management takes the mission seriously and is consistently open to feedback from teammates on the best way to solve problems. the work is hard, but incredibly fulfilling. I get to see a lot of the patient feedback and am so proud of the impact that we have. I look forward to going to work and partnering with really kind, smart, mission-driven people to solve a major issue in the world.

      Cons

      The work can be challenging, and I think each employee has to figure out the right balance for themselves. Also, there is always a lag between when we are working on something and when it might get built into the technology, so that can be tough.
