Pros

- Absolutely great mission to reverse 100 million type 2 diabetics by 2025. - All the engineers I've worked with are extremely talented, passionate, and diverse. I really enjoyed working in this no-ego environment and I'm constantly learning from all my coworkers. I truly believe in the success of the company because I believe in the people. - Company culture should look like a cult and Virta does a fantastic job at promoting this. "Architects of visionary companies don’t just trust in good intentions or values statements; they build cult-like cultures around their core ideologies.”

Cons

- It's a startup so taking up various responsibilities is necessary. Overworking is common. - Benefits aren't great, you're going to take a below medium salary and no-matching 401k in exchange for shares. - Toxic management.

Pros

Meaningful mission-driven company with the goal of curing Type-II diabetes as we know it. Great coworkers. Great office downtown. Unlimited vacation. Generous parental leave. Well funded.

Cons

High turnover in Senior Leadership/Management causing a chaotic environment. Leaders do not live up to company values. Individual Contributors are regularly thrown under the bus when a manager or leader fails. Little-to-no mentorship or growth opportunities. Leadership rewards working on weekends and evenings which leads to burnout. Doesn't take very good care of workers. Suppressed salaries and options despite company age and massive fundraising. Some of the worst benefit plans I've ever seen with huge deductibles. No 401K matching.

Pros

-- I work among the brightest and most compassionate people I know. The people at the company are our strongest asset. -- Mission-driven. We work to improve peoples' lives through improved health outcomes every day. We are doing real work that really matters. -- Opportunities for growth and achievement. If you work hard and do well in your role, you can learn a lot, gain new skills, and take on more responsibility. Managers (for the most part) want you to be successful, even if that isn't on their team. -- It's hard work. Much is expected of you, and you can't just coast by. It is not an easy job by any stretch, but it's rewarding and you feel accomplished, like you are contributing to something bigger than yourself. -- Transparency. Employees have a window into every aspect of the company, including senior management and the CEO. We take it for granted sometimes, but this really is an important and meaningful positive to working here.

Cons

-- Workload can feel grueling at times, particularly if you aren't good at managing your time and energy. The phrase "sustainable high performance" is used here often, but actually achieving that is challenging. -- Employee retention. While this has not yet been an issue, I believe that it will be soon. Salaries, particularly for the operations team and those who have been here for 1-2+ years, are below market rate and have been for some time. Annual comp increases do not seem to take this fact into account. -- Diversity on the senior management team continues to be a concern. Virta is making investments in other areas of D&I, but representation matters.
