Pros
I have worked in nineteen schools as an itinerant orchestra teacher over a span of twenty-four years. VLACS is by far the most supportive and positive environment that I have ever experienced. VLACS guides their new instructors through an organized orientation process that gave me confidence when working with parents and students in a virtual environment. Positive, helpful suggestions, along with a curriculum of guiding documents have made teaching at VLACS one of the most positive experiences I have encountered while working in the field of education. This, plus the fact that students can learn the competencies at their pace is another reason why VLACS is a leader in the future of virtual education.
Cons
There are very few full-time positions at VLACS, which is unfortunate for teachers who thrive in the online teaching environment. The pay scale is based on number of enrollment, with an aggregate of student completion that results in a "bump" in pay. This, along with no contribution to retirement is the only "con" with VLACS.
