Decent place to work but company needs a better strategic vision

Pros

401k matching, good health benefits, free snacks, friendly co-workers, casual dress code, pleasant work environment. It felt like the company had a strong purpose and product. Pay was in-line with my expectations and the role. I really enjoyed most of my co-workers on a personal level. There are some very smart, down-to-earth people at Visio.

Cons

Not much direction, organization, research, or foresight from executives/top-level managers. Products would be rolled out quickly and then die within 3 months because they weren't profitable. There was no grasp of ROI, and thus investments were managed inefficiently. The product is not sustainable long-term. They have a first-to-market advantage but don't know how to capitalize on their educated workforce. Pay rates for sales agents are constantly changing, destroying morale. The current office space is disgusting. Crickets fall from the ceiling and the carpets are stained and filthy. Too many people have been promoted into management/executive positions due to tenure rather than actual qualifications. No clear paths for career growth. It's very much a start-up environment, working to make it through the next week, and the next...you'd better hustle. The culture changed significantly over the past year. This used to be a fun place to work. They used to lock the doors up before 6pm and tell everyone to go home to enjoy their personal lives, and this was a HUGE part of the culture. As margins and deadlines piled up, I saw both low-level employees and managers staying far past normal hours and even starting to work on weekends, with almost no thanks from anyone, while at the same time, work-sponsored happy hours began to fade away in frequency.

Pros

You cannot go wrong with any of the departments at Visio, each team has an incredible group of people to work with. The benefits are really good: generous retirement matching, 9 holidays + one floating, 3 weeks of PTO to start, and great medical/dental options. Even though it is remote work, we all get together at quarterly happy hours, and they even do some virtual events for those unable to commute to Austin! There is also a lot of room to grow at Visio! No one ever needs to feel "stuck" because you can either continue to move up in your current department or Visio offers cross-training programs and the ability to change positions when the capacity allows!

Cons

The only con I can think of won't even be applicable for long: Visio is currently undergoing a lot of change. We are growing and shifting our way of operating which can, at times, be challenging. However, the direction we are moving is positive, and the team is given all of the resources and support they could need during the transition.
