      Mission driven company disrupting the U.S. food system

      Pros

      The management team has strategically hired phenomenal crew members to support the growth of the company. Every crew member has been a pleasure to work with and it seems everyone is rallied behind the mission to bring ethically produced food to the table. It is a fast-paced environment which has fostered personal professional growth. Management is transparent about strategic initiatives, as a result crew members have clear objectives and contributions to tangible outcomes. Everyone has a willingness to learn and grow in this highly collaborative environment.

      Cons

      Like many fast growing companies, work-life balance can be hindered a bit as expectations are high. However, if you have a willingness to learn, an entrepreneurial mindset, and believe in the mission then work doesn't really feel like work. Management is cognizant of the demands and contributions of crew members and are continuously adding resources to support our growth.

We've been busy in 2020 working to keep shelves stocked with eggs during the COVID-19 pandemic, and since going public earlier this summer things have been moving extra fast. We we will continue to add resources to support you, and please know that your manager and Talent Team are always available to talk about how to increase work-life balance and prevent burnout. I'd also like to encourage you to keep an eye out for a few surveys that we'll be distributing in the next few months: an engagement survey, and a workplace needs survey. Your feedback will help us provide the right tools and resources to support both your wellbeing and your productivity.

      Rewarding Career in Ethical Food

      Pros

      Vital Farms is a rewarding place to work because of its strong commitment to core purpose, the stakeholder model, and values. The entire crew is passionate and hard-working, but remain humble and empathetic. There is excellent opportunity to learn and for advancement, so it's a great place to build a career in ethical food.

      Cons

      Vital Farms is a fast-paced environment which can be hard to keep up with if you're accustomed to a slower/steadier setting. To thrive here, be prepared to take initiative starting day 1 and lead with a growth mindset in implementing processes. This is not a con to me, but maybe to some. The HR function has been re-built out in the past year and can sometimes feel out of touch with crew at HQ. However it's important to keep in mind that they have to balance needs of the HQ, remote, and production-based employees.

      Pros

      Have you heard that we're now a public company?!?! It's a testimonial of what a stellar and magnificent crew we have. It's an indescribable pride. Our leadership crew's response to the COVID crisis by enabling us to WFH for the foreseeable year has been incredible. It empowers families to plan and adapt to these extraordinary times. And we haven't skipped a beat! Growth opportunities are plenty if you're up for the challenge - even if it wasn't your college major! I've held two distinct positions during my 4.5 years here that I've not held in my career before Vital Farms. We take the wins and opportunities in stride and practice zero tolerance for bull$h!t. It is remarkable to have a platform where the crew can agree to disagree.

      Cons

      Reflecting on how quickly we're evolving, it takes due time for the crew to adapt to our fast-paced environment. We chip in to share the workload regardless of our titles and this could be a deal-breaker for some.
