Pros

Vital Farms specializes in bringing ethically produced food to the table. This is my first role working for a company whose mission and ethics I am proud to be a part of. You can create your own processes based on your experience and what best fits the situation. The company is growing and there is room for personal growth, development and advancement. Short hierarchy facilitates relationships through all levels of the organization from hourly crew to executive leadership. The company is full of a lot of smart and innovative people looking to do the right thing through food. It feels good to be here!

Cons

Not a con in my book, but same may find the lack of rules, processes, and procedures intimidating. Would love to see more PTO and life insurance benefits.

Mission isn't everything

Pros

The eggs, and the hens that produce them, are wonderful.

Cons

Vital Farms has a wonderful product and mission. You can truly feel good about their pasture-raised eggs and the treatment of its hens. Despite Vital Farms' feel-good mission about putting "ethically produced food to the table" and their humanely raised hens, one would expect company management to treat its employees with just as much respect. Unfortunately, this is hardly the case. A lot of reviews here celebrate the "scrappy, start up culture", which should be read as the expectation of wearing many hats and taking on more work beyond your job description, without getting proper recognition or compensation for your hard work. Like other reviews have stated, there is a high turnover rate, and a significant lack of diversity among staff. Compensation and benefits are nothing to write home about, and favoritism is also a problem. It's a shame that a company with such an admirable mission and values has such a toxic culture.
