Pros

Fun atmosphere and office, genuinely nice people to work with. Good office technology. Good place for those in newer positions or trying to move to a bigger role, but you won't get the mentoring you need for more senior roles to really develop your career. Work life balance is good (but that is because no one seemed motivated here like I have seen at other growing tech companies).

Cons

Management, and it starts at the top. Very little leadership, and everyone appeared afraid to make decisions because the CEO overruled them constantly. Department heads didn't actually get to run their department. Pay is not competitive, and a work environment only goes so far. Turnover here is painfully high and hampered abilities of teams to be effective over time and hit deadlines.

Pros

Fast-paced, challenging environment. Lots of "millennial" perks. Yoga, snacks, occasional lunchs, etc.

Cons

Open-floor office. You have to be a headphone zombie to get work done. Management is very cagey and often suspicious. Even as amicable as you'd like to be when leaving, they still bring out the knives.

Pros

Great co-workers, mostly young ones.

Cons

I left Volusion a few months ago and held a leadership role. The company is continually laying off people and is highly political. Clay tends to talk a lot about other co-workers and has limited vision for the company. The product is outdated and even with the new platform, the product is unstable and customers churn at a high rate. To outsiders, much of this isn't visible. Leadership tends to keep things hidden and isn't transparent enough. It's sad because there was a time when things were better. There are plenty of other choices in town that will treat you better, pay you more and have a better culture. Take a look at Bigcommerce if you want to work in this space. Retailmenot is a great place as well.

I am so sorry to hear you felt leadership was not transparent enough. At a growing company it is important that employees feel as though they are well-informed and can trust the leadership team. With growth, there are challenges to overcome and competitors to outperform. Due to our hard-working team, we are making huge strides to ensure our company is moving in the right direction and our product is at the top of the market.
