Pros

People - The people at Volusion are definitely the best thing about working here. Work - The work is challenging and exciting. Environment - The office space is nice with a living room and a number of different sitting areas you can work in. They give most teams laptops so you can move around during the day and not be tethered to a desk. The game room has a ping pong table, shuffle board, and pool table. People ride scooters to get to and from conference rooms. Nerf gun wars and office games are common. Perks - Perks like hack days, bring your dog to work Fridays, and the occasional free lunch are very nice.

Cons

Mid level management - Some of the Product Managers at Volusion routinely practice behaviors that are notoriously disheartening for their employees. Practices like stonewalling, taking credit for ideas/work, throwing team members under the bus, and lying about agreed upon criteria and delivery dates. I’ve had the pleasure of working with so many great product mangers in Austin’s tech community, unfortunately, Volusion can’t seem keep any of them. Outdated technology - Their current SAAS product is outdated and their plans for replacing it are too conservative. With this comes a pervasive “can’t do” kind of attitude that prevents the company from getting ahead of their competition. IT Team - The IT team is overbooked most of the time and this leads to project launch dates getting pushed back 6 months to a year. This is unacceptable for a technology company practicing agile, in my opinion. Fake Perks - Volusion advertises a number of what we lovingly call “ferks,” which means fake perks. They advertise items like massages, dry cleaning, oil changes, food trucks, beer fridays, fitness classes, life insurance, pet insurance, etc - which are benefits you can opt for, only if you foot the bill 100%. Don’t get me wrong, I love having these options, I just don’t agree with how Volusion advertises them, as if they were paid for by the company.

Pros

Good eye for great, genuine people, Amazing benefits for insurance and PTO, nice office with lots of perks

Cons

Failing product, and revolving product staff. Several layoffs in waves of 10-30 people at a time. Constant fear of being the next one they get rid of. The product team (at the direction of CEO, Bardia Dejban) focuses on what they call "competitive features" rather than what the clients need at the product's core. They pay no attention to feedback from sales or account management when it comes to improving the product. They often sell incomplete and fragmented products before they're ready to be used, which only makes clients mad that they spent their money on it... thus they end up canceling. Look up info on "Mozu" to see an example of this. They're also guilty of hiring new people at a higher pay, only to be trained and on-boarded by another tenured employee that makes less than the trainee. After being let go with several others, I realized how much more I was worth and how much I deserved better as soon as I started interviewing.

Pros

They have free food all the time as well as other free snack type items in the office. They don't really take themselves seriously so it is a care free and fun environment most of the time. Thats about it.....

Cons

Well where should I start? I worked for Volusion for three years and only moved up a dollar in pay while yet consistently being a top performer. Like others said here there is no incentives/pay raises (EVER) and the management is a joke. This place tries to have fun and play office games and ride scooters all over the place and emulate what I would imagine what a Google office would look like, yet they are NOWHERE near where Google is. I am absolutely certain that when real companies like Google were in the beginning phases they were getting at it and busting their butts, not running around on scooters and rolling pigs around. I remember a conversation I had with a member of upper level management about the fact that I was continually passed over for raises/promotions when I was consistently one of the top performers, and discussing how that there was really no incentive for me to excel there and if it would be acceptable to just perform at the same level as the others there since they made the same amount as I did and I was clearly not going anywhere. His response was "well when you came to work here you agreed to give your 100% and if your numbers went down we would have to talk to you about your performance." Essentially saying that I would be punished for not covering everyone elses workload while they surfed facebook and barely met the minimum daily requirements for contacts. Oh and in that same conversation I was told one of the reasons I was passed up for promotion was because I was not "social enough" and that I didn't participate in enough of the office activities. Well the issue with that is that at that time they actually had a contest going based on contacts and taking time off of the computers while doing literally the ONLY thing that may get me any kind of extra money out of this place was really not a smart thing to do in my book.
