Not bad, Not great

Pros

The product is pretty interesting and the pay isn't bad for the work involved.

Cons

Not a lot of diversity or career growth. To be honest, not much direction in where the product is headed Company tech stack is incredibly varied among different teams, and there are some folks that don't have the best attitude towards working in a team or with other developers. Managers could also use some guidance in actual product/project management The CEO and lots of team members love to use the f bomb during team calls (not in a derogatory way but still this is the workplace)

Thanks for your feedback. WHOOP is invested and has committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce and product, so we're disheartened to hear that you feel the product doesn't have further direction. Our team is hard at work on building new features, updates, and enhancements to ensure that we are constantly addressing our members' needs and wants, in addition to reaching new and diverse audiences. Again, thanks for your feedback, and for your hard work during your time at WHOOP.

Pros

Employees who are passionate about the product

Cons

I was very excited to join WHOOP when I got the offer, but my time there didn’t live up to the expectations I had. Cross functional teamwork is either nonexistent or very disorganized. Leadership is also very poor. They want the company to grow but with no clear steps on how to get there. When I say leadership is horrible, I mean it. Imagine trying to start the work day only to find out you’ve been locked out of everything. Till this day I’m not aware of the CEO (or any other senior leadership) publicly addressing the layoff. Goes to show how little they care about the employees who pour their heart and soul into the company. So sad to see a truly great product being led by a bunch of incompetent, unsympathetic people. Employees previously had to accrue vacation and about a month before the layoff, they changed to having flexible PTO. With the timing of everything, you can’t help but think they only altered their PTO policy so they don’t have to payoff accrued vacation to employees when they leave the company. There are so many flaws internally, whether it be systems related or workflow related. I’ve heard some people praise how the culture at WHOOP is amazing. It’s average at best. Benefits are also mediocre for tech standards.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review and share this feedback. We agree and appreciate that WHOOP employees are deeply passionate about our product and mission. Regarding the reduction in force that took place, every impacted team member had the opportunity to meet with an executive stakeholder and a member of the HR team. During these private meetings, we explained the rationale behind the reduction, discussed severance agreements, and answered questions from the departing employees. The reduction was an incredibly challenging time for all involved. We worked tirelessly to run an empathic process that prioritized all our team members, especially those who transitioned out of the organization. With respect to communication from executive leadership, on the day of the reduction, our CEO emailed the entire company first thing in the morning. Later in the day, he hosted a meeting for the remaining team members that included business updates and commentary from other executive leaders. In regards to transitioning our corporate team to a Flexible Vacation Policy, contrary to your speculation, this adjustment was considered over the course of years and driven by employee feedback. As outlined during the transition, accruals owed under the prior policies were frozen and persist as payable upon departure. We will continue to consider thoughtful improvements and optimizations of our policies over time based on employee feedback. While I’m sorry to hear you’ve had a negative experience at WHOOP, we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors, and as time passes, we hope to be a resource for you in the future if/when the appropriate time comes.

Boys club with a great product

Pros

- really cool product that actually has the ability to change the wearable space as we know it - some of the smartest co-workers who are genuinely amazing at what they do - new office looks like it’ll be really nice

Cons

- The epitome of a boys club. If you’re not a bro who can hang, this probably isn’t the place for you. I’ve constantly seen white male frat bro peers get credit for more/more opportunities than others who are doing a better job but don’t watch ESPN every day - Despite saying there’s a ton of room for growth here, for most people that’s truly not the case. They’d rather higher someone from outside one level above you than promote you. They will continue to add more and more responsibilities onto your plate but not give you the promotion for it - Not much of a work life balance in certain HQ (non-MSR) departments - The people they do choose to promote do not have the skills it takes to be a good manager and there isn’t much formal people management training besides a few seminars here and there - There will be forced hybrid work come the new HQ opening so a lot of remote roles will end (again, not MSR) - Recent layoffs make future of the company feel uncertain
