Uncertain Future

Pros

* Decent pay plan for the industry, Salary plus commission. * Since AAP sold to Carlyle group injection of capital has improved some areas of operations. * Typically laissez faire (Let it be) style of management of this particular sales position. * Acceptable Sick and Vacation pay benefits.

Cons

* The pay plan includes several conditions that allow the company to reclaim commissions for reasons largely outside of your control. These include broad market factors, supply chain issues, and year‑over‑year losses caused by increased local competition. Management describes the plan as fair and balanced, claiming you have the opportunity to earn back what’s deducted, but in practice it’s set up to protect company profits. For example, if you sell a major part like a $3,000 turbo in March 2024, you’re expected to match that sale the following year or lose part of your commission due to a declining account penalty. That hardly feels fair or balanced in a real sales environment. * Since the Carlyle Group took ownership, all sales staff have been required to return to the office after more than five years of remote work. This shift has raised costs for employees, but management’s stance is that because sales roles earn commission, staff should simply work harder to offset those additional expenses. The general sentiment among employees is that this change is designed to push out long‑tenured workers so the company can rehire more cheaply by dividing their accounts among multiple newer hires. * Department communication is poor. Processes are changed frequently without input from or notice to the sales team, which often leads to client issues that in turn reduce commissions. * While it’s reasonable to have performance metrics, they’re structured so that meeting the required goals is often unrealistic. As a result, employees rarely qualify for end‑of‑year cost‑of‑living adjustments that keep pace with inflation. These metrics include sales growth, call performance, and other targets that are set just high enough to be unreachable. * The new owners are investing heavily in emerging technologies that, in related industries, are already being used to replace people. Management presents this as a positive development, but it’s clear the long‑term goal is cost reduction through eventual job automation.

Pros

Co-workers are nice hardworking people who deserve better.

Cons

6 day mandatory work weeks, low pay, below average benefits, below average time off, no discipline because most people at the branches are contract workers and poor treatment of long term staff.

Flexible work schedule, i.e. full on-site but unlimited paid time off (unwritten).

Cons

Consultants-run company, management takes consultants side not employees, 13-period close, long hours throughout the month, employees no voice/not empowered, employees not supported/no training.

You don't want to work here

Pros

Rank and file employees are nice Career opportunities may be there IF you want them instead of giving your hard work to a company that values their employees.

Cons

The company was recently sold and purchased by a private equity firm. I quit for the sake of my mental health and friends and immediate family have commented how much more relaxed I am. Senior Leadership is very toxic, does not have your back (I've worked at places where they do), and not aligned so you may be directed to do something by one person, only to have another leader have you do something else, meanwhile, you've just wasted your time doing what was originally assigned. This could be summed up by saying the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. Not very efficient at all. 12+ hour days are the norm and expected, and you can tell by how unhappy everyone seems to be there as they are burnt out. There are many process failures and systems that don't function as they were intended to do, making it next to impossible to get work done and if continues, I wouldn't be surprised if we are reading about the company going bankrupt in the next few years. Rules vary by department. The new CEO expects everyone to be in office so they can have meeting after meeting with employees located throughout the country. He will also do podcasts and bloviate asking the podcasts guests to talk about how much better the company is since he took over. Pay was decent but for a company this size, benefits are quite archaic.

Pros

Team is close and family oriented for the most part. I really liked having my independence in doing my job when driving. Also, you meet all faceted of people and build a great rapport with the vendors in which you deliver to.

Cons

The pay could be a little higher in these times of living but overall a good place to work.
