Do NOT promote from within...

Pros

Great place to work for: - benefits - decent pay - bonus - 401k

Cons

They do NOT promote from within. All new postings require advanced degrees, certificates, and experience; however, nearly all the individuals in high ranking positions dont have even the least of these prerequisites. Ex. HR team is made up almost entirely of folks who accepted positions with little to no experience, by default. But all new (last 2-4 years) posted positions require HR certs, degrees, and years of experience. This eliminates the opportunity for internal employees to apply and grow in the same manner that the current CU leaders all did. They are completely unbalanced in this way. Their hiring decisions make no sense and do not match the culture they desire to emulate. They have lost many great employees and leaders because of this; the result is new leaders, at high levels who do not understand the culture and therefore interfere with their mission/ability to create and maintain their desired culture.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed our generous benefits and compensation package. We are very proud of our culture at WSECU, and we always encourage our internal employees to consider applying for positions. In fact, we have had a lot of success with hiring from within, both in our HR department and the credit union as a whole. It is a balance - we value new perspectives that external hires can bring to the table, while 42% of our jobs filled in 2020 were by internal employees, a statistic we are very proud to share.

Pros

Great benefits and pay, when you first start everything is wonderful. People are positive and helpful.

Cons

No room for growth, Ive seen people who were with the company 15+ years and they would get looked over for a promotion. Also if you work on the east side of the state don't expect any support form HQ. We joked that our side was the red-headed step child of the company. They tell you a lot of things you want to hear but then never follow through.

We appreciate your feedback. We take pride in our excellent benefits and supportive, team-oriented culture, and it’s great to hear that you agree. We are fortunate to have so many talented team members in our front office, which is both an asset and a challenge when there are limited leadership roles at the branches and employees tend to stick around with longer tenure which means openings can be scarce. Career growth of our employees is very important to us. It’s unfortunate to hear that you disapprove of the management. You’re right that our HQ and many branches are located in western WA. The newer Spokane Valley Branch and the upcoming new Spokane branch in 2021 are just a few of the ways we’ve invested in this area recently. But we couldn’t get by without our eastern WA folks and the amazing member service they provide each and every day!

Wow! It’s amazing to hear employees say this is the “best place I have ever worked!” From the big picture items of pay and benefits, to the smaller perks like always having food around (which is sincerely missed while many of our team members are working from home!), we agree that there are so many reasons why WSECU is great place to work. It’s true that the majority of our roles are based at our headquarters in Olympia, and there are a limited number of positions at our branches in other locations. However, we encourage our staff to communicate their interest in career growth and keep an eye out as positions become available both in our front and back offices.
