Pros

The discount is very good, the staff are all lovely. The company sources food ethically and is honest about its practices

Cons

Waitrose is battling to survive in the retail food market and isn't as pleasant to work for as it is perceived. Very hard work and understaffed, customers are more challenging and 'entitled' than you'd expect from a supermarket.

Pros

The pay is okay and benefits are really good, discount in waitrose is 15% and john lewis is 35% and other discounts with the card. Usually, long running staff that have been there forever, which means they know the company well and can comfort you on their own knowledge to progress.

Cons

Once the budget is spent for the year the company get last with enrolling new staff or cant afford new staff to help even if there isn't enough to cover a shift. There is a lot of 16-18 year olds trying to run the shop. Needs more supervisors than one especially if something is to go wrong, customers are waiting to have authorisation of alcohol with staff being so young. Modern Waitrose isn't working you will only stay in your section unless you are bored.

Pros

Final salary pension scheme. Discount on JL group shopping. Annual bonus. Great experience to get involved with a major retailer and work across the business. Plenty of initiatives. Some brilliant people to meet and work with. Good respect of holidays and variable access to services and group benefits. Great restaurant services.

Cons

You'll be lucky if you ever see much of a pay rise after your start date. The bonus is used to offset wages and significantly used as a tool to retain people. Very few opportunities for training and development. Staff are generally treated poorly by management and their loyalty and commitment is taken advantage of, especially store staff. Many staff services and protections have been diminished year on year. The whole Partner model is has been subverted as a tool to suppress complaint and subvert action to make services and conditions better for staff by giving an appearance of having an influence.
