Pros

Flexibility in Hours Personal and Professional Growth a priority Well known and respected employer if/when you leave Pay for professional positions is very good

Cons

Not all managers stress growth No movement outside your department Benefits way too expensive to carry family, and they know it, benefit site has link to state funded options for your kids Can't talk to a human in payroll if you have any problems Payroll tends to be staffed with idiots - the ones that know what they are doing leave because of poor pay and too much work

Pros

The interaction with the students is phenomenal .Summers off are great for traveling and pursuing other passions.helping students achieve their potential is extremely self rewarding .You have a rare opportunity to reflect the change you want in the world.

Cons

The management (principals and assistant principals) are often not people persons and only advanced to these positions because they wanted to escape the classroom.many are former coaches and lack the self discipline needed to lead a group of academic professionals.many are prejudiced by "the good old boys network" and others by racial sterotypes.MANY folks leave academics after discovering the quagmire they have entered.many administrators are just dolt bullies who intimidate a work force that is approximately 98% female.Few males tolerate this behavior and therefore leave academics.
