Pros

Look, Walmart isn't the worst place in the world to work. Most of the people they hire are young so you can make a lot of friends and the work itself is tolerable if not mundane. If you get in good with a few managers you can pretty much run the place. They have a bonus system in place that is nice (although by no means extravagant) and can add a few hundred extra dollars to your bottom line every quarter if your store hits its performance marks. They also provide flexible schedules for people who are in school or are cannot work standard business hours. There is opportunity for advancement if a retail gig is what you want to do or if you don't have the education to move up other places as walmart does not require a degree to move into salaried management. .

Cons

Abysmally low pay. I live in a major Texas city and pay starts out at a shade over $8/hr. Full time hours are nearly unheard of and overtime is a four-letter word (along with union). Management does play favorites like I said above which can be a pro if you are in the right side of that. If you do happen to get full time hours you have to wait a year for health benefits to kick in and two years of you are part time. There is opportunity for advancement but don't expect to to get paid ether with department managers making less than $2/hr more than floor associates. Management is concerned about their bonus' so you can expect hours to be cut across the board when running up to a bonus. Bottom line if you're looking for beer money this might be the place for you but if you have mouths to feed I hope you don't have problems going on government assistance.
