Pros

Relative faculty autonomy; not much pressure (that I experienced) to inflate grades; students are a mixed bag but overall tend to be respectful

Cons

The pay is god awful--like insultingly bad. Students I taught were getting jobs at the university after they graduated and making more than many full-time faculty. And this is to say nothing of the growing use of adjuncts, most of whom make less than $3k per class. The university's leadership is also deeply problematic. The upper administration turned over almost completely in the last 3-5 years. Many in the new leadership were promoted from within and it's led to a culture of nepotism, currying favor, and playing favorites. If you add both of those things together, you get an increasingly toxic workplace that's beginning to destroy faculty morale.
