Gulag is the first word that comes to mind.
Pros
Wayfair is not joking when they say they seek the best people to work there. They do a great job of hiring teams of people that work well together. Sure there are always a few bad apples, once in a while, but for the most part, I can't say enough good things about my coworkers. They busted their butts and are some of the nicest people and I wish them the best.
Cons
The attendance policy is ridiculous. If you're on time, you're late and you'll get a demerit. 3 demerits are a write-up. At 5 you're fired. If you leave early, it's a demerit- even if your boss approves it. They have to remember to go into the system to note that your adjusted schedule is approved. If they don't, its a 1-way ticket to demerit town. If you punch in literally 1 minute late, it's a demerit. The churn of turnover based on this alone was mind-blowing. I watched so many motivated, high performing talent get walked out the door for just that. BTW-there IS a drug test to work here. It is NEVER mentioned prior to getting your offer letter. The job was described as a dispatch position, but it's 99% customer service via phone. In theory, you make outbound calls to customers who are expecting deliveries within that day or week to set/confirm appointments and take into account any important information. Such as Certificates of insurance, building concierge, flights of stairs, etc. You also take inbound calls from these customers, providing ETAs, cancelations, complaints, property damage, item damage, etc. You'll also be in contact with the driver teams via phone. However, Wayfair is MASSIVE and is running these DA's with skeleton crews. The call volume is RIDICULOUS. You're not just taking calls from your market. When one DA in your REGION becomes busy, the calls overflow to the next available HDC. For the amount of work you're doing and you're working for the hottest tech company in Boston, you're getting paid well, right? NOPE. You're paid the same as the warehouse employees- usually temps that filter through to unload and pick the warehouse. You're only getting $17/hr. They LOVE saying that Nirj and Steve don't take home a paycheck and you should be grateful that a guy on the Forbes 400 list makes that sacrifice to you when you request a raise. If you do get a raise, it's 4 cents. They say that there is room to grow, but that's if you want to go to Copley or are willing to relocate to another state and start up a new DA, doing your same role and pay rate. There is no room for advancement at the DA unless someone in management leaves. Also, never forget that Wayfair supports the mass-incarceration of children ripped from their families.
