Company Looking for Direction
Pros
Wayfair was a nice place to work. People were friendly, hours were manageable, and the work was not particularly hard. The people I worked with seemed to genuinely like each other and overall it seemed like people wanted to help the company achieve greater success.
Cons
The company is growing rapidly, but it does not seem that there is a sense of what the company wants to grow up to be. I read one blog post by a Wayfair executive that compared working at Wayfair to riding a rocket. This may be true, however, if the rocket doesn't have a clear destination then it'll just end up floating endlessly in space. That is what Wayfair felt like. The company is hiring rapidly but doesn't seem to put much thought into why candidates are put into certain roles or why teams exist. This leads to a complicated workplace where individuals with little experience are managing people with more experience and responsibilities are unclear. Lastly, the companies internal IT infrastructure is extremely poor and it is very difficult to convince management to provide access to new tools. Servers are slow, provided computer are sub-par, and the software programs available to employees do not put workers in a position to do their best work.
