Pros

I had an amazing team on the product side.

Cons

-C-Suite are Tech bros gaming the stock market -Was pulled out of Training and given the most insane deadlines I have ever seen, and this is coming from and advertising background -All Design work blocked, derailed, or steamrolled by engineering in the sake of "gotta go fast" -Zero User Experience research or practice in play -Insane hours, deliberately cut from collaboration with teams -No respect for anything but "get it done fast" and "make stakeholders happy" -No desire to make any sort of consistent experience across products -Business lead, Engineering dictated, product driven, zero UX leadership -Politics Galore -"Oh you want to interview a user? Shut up pixel monkey and dance." -3 riffs in the ONE year I was able to hold a position -All non leadership remote work terminated because the CEO "Had a dream of everyone being back in the office." -Worst professional experience in my 20 years of design work

Pros

- Relatively good pay compared to market

Cons

- Senior leadership resents employees and is condescending - Culture is entirely team dependent as there is no culture set at the top. Unfortunately, it is frequently bad. Especially in tech where employees are forced to work well over 40 hours a week with not even a “thank you” - The company is on the path to bankruptcy and has cut approximately 4500 employees in the past two years. They continuously fail to raise revenue and rely on layoffs to cut costs. They are not apologetic about these layoffs, and actually blame the employees for the company’s bad performance which is actually largely due to macroeconomic factors and poor decisions on their part - Getting promoted is much much more difficult than at other companies. They bait you with high initial pay and then your pay is largely static for years after arriving.

Pros

Many potential employers have remarked when they see Wayfair on my resume that they know I am dependable and hard-working. They have also said "Wayfair - what a meat grinder". Many of the people I worked with were some of the smartest and most talented people I have ever met and I learned a lot in my time there.

Cons

The 6 month evaluation cycles produce anxiety across the entire organization, and things may have changed but in my time there they were seeking to let go of what they considered the 'bottom' 20% every 6 months which meant that we were constantly training people who really wouldn't even be allowed to make any sort of impact on the team. I was there when the first layoffs happened and when I asked if that meant we would not bring in a fresh wave of direct from college recruits I was told no - they would still all get hired. To me this shows that Wayfair understands that they are constantly hiring so they can fire and are not trying to stabilize their organization. Just my two cents. If you do not have an aggressive personality or ability to stand up for yourself and your team, you will simply get eaten alive by this culture.
