Pros

absolutely nothing, my mental health has never been worse

Cons

- managers are always changing - expectations are always changing/ unclear - once someone in leadership doesn't like you, they start digging for reasons to term you - if you're reaching all of the goals set but someone else is reaching them better than you, you'll receive corrective action or condescending coaching -only white people win any awards/prizes in competitions - and finally: if you've worked there for over a year and are struggling due to the PANDEMIC, they will force you to resign or they will term you for attendance.

Pros

- Equity compensation - my comp was quite strong, mainly because of the stock performance - Work-life balance - generally reasonable, particularly in the COVID WFH environment - Parental leave policy - better than most places in the area (16 weeks primary, 8 weeks secondary), though frankly nothing special for a tech company, but there's a big caveat that I'll dive into in the "cons" section

Cons

- Toxic & competitive work culture - Wayfair has a forced, stack rank policy where managers are required to rank every employee at a given level within a team. There are quotas for how many people need to get each rating. This leads to a competitive and frankly, unfair, work environment where you feel like you constantly have to watch your back. As a manager of a large team, I found the "calibration" process to be a nightmare - on more than one occasion, I had to move employees from "meeting expectations" to "inconsistent performance" in order to meet quotas. To be sure, these employees WERE meeting expectations by any measure and had no real warning. It made delivering these reviews extremely uncomfortable and disheartening - I had to justify ratings I did not believe in. I've never had significant mental health issues before joining Wayfair and I had a complete mental breakdown requiring extensive psychiatric care. And I'm not the only one - I know at least a handful of others at my level who had a similar experience. It has taken me a few months since leaving to even write this review because of how horrible the culture was. I wish I had paid more attention to the Glassdoor ratings I'd seen before I accepted my offer as they are replete with mentions of a toxic culture - Confusing / chaotic environment - in my two years at Wayfair, I had 5 different managers. If you ask around, you will find that this is not an uncommon experience. While you'd expect some degree of change in a growing company, it felt particularly chaotic and disorganized. Teams would get reorged over and over again, often multiple times in a year, and it led to a lot of frustration and confusion - Questionably legal behavior- following my parental leave, my job was essentially erased. A new person was leading my team and I no longer had direct reports. Unfortunately, from talking around I know that this is not an isolated experience. Is this legal? Almost definitely not. I had already experienced so much trauma from this job that I personally chose not to fight it. I am now working at a higher level (L5) at a better tech company for more pay, so for me it was simply better to move on and re-focus my efforts. I really, really hope that other people - especially moms - will read this review and re-think an offer from Wayfair

Pros

Review the Cons listed below

Cons

Nepotism - promotions and performance reviews are heavily focused on who has more friends at senior levels of the company (popularity) and is not based on true performance and impact. Unequal utilization of efforts and work across all levels and business units - Those at senior levels spend most days on calls, where nothing actually gets done. Dishonest and unfair treatment for all levels across the company- senior leaders turn a blind eye and allows those at the L3 level and below that work from home/corporate to take unlimited time off when they really shouldn't. While those in field operations are doing the majority of the true work and not being compensated or appreciated for the work they are doing on the front lines. COVID efforts - The company, early on, decided to prioritize profits over true safety and health of the field operations employees by bypassing laws and taking no efforts in shutting buildings down at any point in the last 10+ months. During this same time, all corporate employees have been working from home for the past 10+ months and corporate senior leaders have made it a top priority to focus on the corporate/WFH employees' health and wellbeing (with things such as multiple reset days).
