Pros

Mission driven company with mission driven staff

Cons

Non-existent leadership, no structure. Seems like leadership only wants to grow the organization. Incredibly high turnover of staff

Pros

I believe they have a robust drug addiction / rehab program which is well funded, as the CEO feels strongly for this population and gives particular attention to this pillar of healthcare

Cons

-Very poor quality of services for primary care / urgent care / specialty care. Management is aware of this and the incidents are well documented & reported, but nothing is done to fix the quality of care as this is an FQHC. -I have seen instances of blatant Medi-Cal fraud, which have been brought to the attention of the CMO. HR will then target you with monthly meetings to review your “performance.” I was the highest performing employee at the clinic, but was subsequently forced out because I spoke out. As were many others before me. -I’ve had coworkers who had lawsuits brought against them for pts they saw while they were WSH employees, and WSH basically never returned their calls and left them to their own devices - possibly to lose their license. This place does not care for you, and it will come back to haunt you.

WellSpace has a great vision but poor execution

Pros

Many of the employees care about the patients and the work that they do. WellSpace has many great programs that are intended to serve the community. Pay is alright, benefits are good, PTO is solid.

Cons

Staffing, turnover, and policies make care sub-standard. Patients do not get the quality of care they need or deserve, and that's across almost all departments and programs. Management is constantly pushing to achieve more, meet new goals, and set standards. It is just not possible. Appointments for primary care are scheduled 2-6 months out, depending on whether a patients wants to be seen in-person or telehealth. Waiting times can be upwards of 2 hours. Referrals take 2-3 months to process and are often in-need of correction, which takes several more months. Doctors do not have the time to properly address anything in the appointments and are quite strict with patients about addressing a maximum of two topics per appointment. As an employee, the pay is on the lower end but relatively comparable for a non-profit. Benefits and PTO are pretty solid. But if you want to do your job well and to provide appropriate care to patients, look elsewhere. For my department, caseloads are high and the expectations are unrealistic. Certain members of management were more supportive than others. However, all of them pushed us to the limit based on pressures from the insurance companies, grants, and higher management. There was no advocacy for staff or patients. Overall, WellSpace has a cultural problem with quantity over quality. They appear to want to be the first at everything, from receiving grants to building locations to some innovative new approach. But they do not have the infrastructure in place to do it well. Patients are suffering and staff are struggling.
