Pros

Long hours. Compulsory to come to office 60% of time. Layoffs that apparently happened after 14 years when there are no signs of recession. If you think these are cons, please proceed to “cons” section.

Cons

I was hired at a senior software engineer position only to realize that my colleagues much junior than me in the industry were at Lead software engineer. So apparently my pre Wellington experience counted for zilch! The path to promotions here is takes 3 years to be promoted to Lead and another 3 years to be promoted to VP. I could jump ship now and land a senior VP position.

Pros

Good benefits, nice office facilities (open plan), art collection

Cons

No career development (supposedly ‘flat,’ but have about 7 tiers for title structure), so not a lot of growth or opportunities for promotion. Benefits are touted as rationale for below market pay and raises are often less than cost of living increase. Conservative mindset lends itself to lack of both diversity of thought and demographics. Strong culture - great if you ‘fit in,’ but if you don’t well, you don’t!

Pros

- Looks great on your resume - 15% 401k - people are smart

Cons

- place is filled with sexist, racist old white men who run the show. don't bother speaking up or HR will call you the problem - they will hire less qualified men who will get paid way more than any woman. company denies this is a problem. - long hours. depends on team but expect 10+hour days at a minimum, weekends too - live like it's 1980. investment innovation is often stifled, and hence the firm is suffering - if you have to take a call or anything that requires you to be away from your desk for more than 5 minutes, expect passive aggressive stares and talking behind your back.
