Pros

There are a lot of opportunities for technical employees - engineers, software analysts, information technology, drafting and design, quality - and for business oriented employees - project managers, communications experts and marketing managers. There are also a lot of opportunities for support personnel, such as staff assistants, administrative support, technical support, and interns. Westinghouse is growing and innovating - FAST! - and because of that, there are opportunities to travel around the world, work on interesting and challenging projects, and move up in your career. Nuclear power is getting a lot more support, and it's making the company have a lot more to offer.

Cons

Westinghouse has a lot of benefits, but it is still working on handling all of the change that has been happening and the incredible growth the company has gone through in the past couple of years. Nuclear is a challenging field to work in, and there are a lot of people competing for the jobs that open up. One area in which Westinghouse still needs a lot of work is in development and improvement for their administrative support, since it is such a seriously technical company and there is a major focus on the technical employee improvement that it seems the other careers get a little lost.

Pros

They pay very well and it's a very nice facility. Overall, people are friendly.

Cons

Where to start. Because of Toshiba's ownership, they tout a lot of "work-life balance". However, this could not be farther from the truth. Negotiate a lot of vacation time before accepting a position because no time is given for personal or sick time. You must use your vacation time. And you can negotiate the time. I learned that too late when I discovered that many others had but I foolishly had not. Be prepared to make up your time. They are sticklers for working exact hours but sadly, if you work 2, 3, or 4 hours overtime per day (which many do) don't expect the company to be lenient on you taking that time off later for personal reasons. Regarding alternate work place options and 4/10 or 9/80 schedules (just instituted), it is entirely up to the manager of the department and many have already said they would not support it. Therefore those employees do not benefit from this option. Also, the only way to move up and progress your career is if you are an engineer or a lawyer. Otherwise, what position you start with is what you stay with.
