Tightrope Walking for High Expectations

Pros

It's a better start-up job for most because (depending on location and/or management) you'll get paid above the average rate in fast food cities. Promotional opportunities can come often and raises for hourly employees happen bi-annually. Benefits are decent as well when available to enroll. And can't forget those employee discounts!

Cons

"Customer Service" to Whataburger as a whole means "do whatever the customer wishes, no matter how unreasonable it is". And more than often you will encounter the unreasonable for even the smallest mistakes made. There are even instances that customers will lie to you over the phone (instead of in your face) just to get a free meal, and there's only so much proof-checking you can do. This can warrant to anyone (myself included) just making up any story just to get another batch of food at the store's expense. Benefits are another problem, as they have their limitations as well. For regular employees, don't expect any vacation or sick pay at all, and expect your insurance window to be limited to one month out of the year instead of being available at any given time of the year. For anyone in management, sick pay rolls on as high as it can go, but vacation weeks are on a 'use it or lose it' basis - no roll-overs or cash ins. Bonuses are also on shaky ground as it's all based on rigged performance factors.

Pros

No Pros that were real. Lots of talk and verbal representations with lots of good looking printed materials boiler plated with nice sounding verbiage but the rubber rarely if ever hits the road. Just a lot of window dressing.

Cons

Very abusive and lacked basic respect for workers. High Stress with Unrealistic expectation and requirements. Low pay. (Remember to divide the annual salary back across 15 months not 12 due to the 50 or more hours required weekly and bonuses are not guaranteed). No real hand washing and no gloves really bothered me given the internal policy is so aggressive to insure this function for public health is accomplished but they easily know proper hand washing just isn't occurring because of the policy regarding time requirements aka Labor vs money trumps health. Pure ignorance and/or willful disregard for basic health protections and a great shock to me since I had been a customer since they virtually opened their doors and I never knew how bad it was until I got behind the Orange Curtain... I have not been a customer moving forward as it just grosses me out to be honest.
