Pros

Large company with resources in many areas. *Potential* to work on interesting products for the consumer market. Certain aspects of Whirlpool systems could be considered a best practice-for instance the Product Safety process. If you wish to learn, there is a great wealth of product knowledge relevant to the appliance industry. Benefits are on par with most companies in the industry. If you have a family, the Saint Joseph location is a nice place to raise your kids. There are opportunities to move around within the company.

Cons

Certain areas of the company are top heavy, with more chiefs and less indians. There is a lot of company politics-managers seem to be making decisions based on where they are heading next rather than the business at hand. This has resulted in some morale issues by those pulling the weight, and also in a lot of non-value added activity that may look good to the next higher level of management without adding productivity or improving morale. Additionally, there seems to be a lack of decisiveness in direction. This may be a disconnect between senior management and mid-management that may prove hazardous in the competitive environment of household appliances.

Pros

Whirlpool is a company thats also a familly. Most that work here feal like a familly working towards common goals. Executive management is fairly relaxed, and will listen to employees. Since Whirlpool is a very large company, there is always oportunities for growth. Whirlpool is also a fairly solid company, and you know that the company as a whole will make it through the hard times in tact, adapting as needed.

Cons

Whirlpool is very beurocratic. Red tape is a common commodity here. In addition, Whirlpool IT is very disorganized and siloed, making it very inefficient.

Pros

Varied career opportunities if wanted Easy to set yourself apart Small town locations are good to raise a family

Cons

Too much overlap of accountability, Highly matrixed organization Employee well being (Benefits, training, career management etc) is not top concern of management. They give it lip service, and it looks good on the surface, but ultimately the average employee falls at bottom of priorities Management willingness to attack and address the tough issues
