Pros

There were a few cool co-workers

Cons

Managers are ignorant and inherently evil. They will treat you like a slave, yell in your face, gaslight you, treat you like a child, even if you do your job excellently and are more educated than them. They need to be fired. I can't name names on this site, but the head female manager of Visitor relations needs to locked away in a psych ward and kept away from people. Very low pay. All people in higher up positions look at you and treat you like a dirty peasant slave. I hope they're all doing very poorly in life

Pros

Access to an amazing collection. Experience in using Raiser's Edge.

Cons

Expected to function at level of success and efficiency of upper level staff and with the same accountability without any of the compensation. Huge void between between job description and reality of the work that is expected. Majority of the institution is unaware that the front of house staff splits their time between the lobby and office and take on great responsibility in doing so. Interns performing a fraction of the work are given higher status and more respect. Uniform has a much larger effect on employee performance and attitude than any upper level manager would imagine.

Pros

Great coworkers, museum is a nice working environment, I generally agree with the Whitney's mission and values

Cons

The job can be physically strenuous (standing for many hours at a time), not a lot of overlap between front of house and back of house staff– there should be more opportunities for overlap (not just socially, but professionally). The museum should stand by the values it espouses and grant all employees minimum benefits and living wages (they are failing to do so now).
