Pros

Management actually cares about you and wants to make sure you enjoy coming into work and are at your best. Pay is $15 which is nice. Small, close knit team that fosters teamwork and meaningful connections. Hours are usually good considering it is a smaller team.

Cons

EXTREMELY limited room for internal growth, even going from part time to full time. Rarely promotes employees and will often hold interviews with internal employees and externals who apply. Expectations are very high, expected to sell sell sell even though it's a nonfor profit. Knowledge of artists is not pushed and resources rarely given, but knowledge is expected. Uniform is trash. You will see kindergarten group leaders with the same t-shirts. Expected to dress well with a silly low quality t shirt. I.e. Black shoes, blazer or black cardigan ( if you want), nice slacks or a skirt of "reasonable length".

Pros

Amazing curators and exhibition programming; small staff, so it's a very hands-on workplace; see a project from beginning to end; passionate people who believe in the work they do

Cons

Not compensated well, as it is a non-profits arts institution and it's in one of the most expensive cities in the world; expected to do a lot, long hours, lots of events, for not much pay

Pros

Everyone in my department is passionate about their job and bring extreme talent and creativity to their work.

Cons

In the new building, we are pushing our capacity (i.e. we have so much demand from visitors and want to be able to provide the programming to satisfy them, but our staff can only grow so much).
