Pros

Working for Williams International has provided broad exposure to aerospace, specifically in the context of gas turbine engine manufacturing, that many would be hard pressed to find right out of college. Work is certainly fascinating, with tons of responsibility out of the gate. Many bright people work here.

Cons

In my opinion, the negatives of company culture far outweigh the positive aspects of working for Williams. To begin, Gregg Williams has surrounded himself with "yes men" for managers, who will only tell him what he wants to hear and have no qualms throwing their staff under the bus, so as to save their own hide, when things don't work out. The saying "crap rolls downhill" couldn't more adequately describe what it's like working here. There is a high demand for output, with very little resources provided to actually do your job. Those who are able to somehow thrive in this environment often don't get recognition for their acheivements because their managers will take all of the glory. It almost seems as if mediocrity is the requisite for promotion because, if you're good at what you do, you're not going anywhere... So make sure to set the bar low. While business is certainly growing, with more opportunities on the horizon, the company is also experiencing an efflux of skilled engineers and technicians that no one seems to be talking about... Having been closely acquainted with many of the recently departed, I can attest to the fact that they have all left for reasons similar to the above and I certainly plan to follow suit.

Great company, IT Department is not respected

Pros

The company has a very long, successful history, producing products at the top of it's industry. Their engineers are very talented and well compensated, They have some cool perks on campus, such as a running track, basketball courts, and an ice rink. Their location is excellent if you live in the Lakes area.

Cons

Their applications are mired in ancient technology. They want to upgrade them to current technology, but most aren't stable enough to do this. Also, there is virtually no IT governance. Basically, people all over the company in non-IT roles can create applications in whatever technology they want and the IT department is expected to support them. Advice from the application developers is often not considered when making decisions about company-wide commercial application licensing and support.
