Pros

Management places incredible amounts of trust in employees I've never been shown so much respect at any other job "Lower" level employees are encouraged to speak up and share their opinions, and are actually listened to Yearly Diversity and Inclusion survey (and results are acted upon) Promotions seem to actually be merit/performance based Yearly disclosure of gender pay gaps Average starting PTO (16 days) Extremely well-stocked kitchen Everyone (*everyone*) gets a top-of-the-line MacBook Pro to use for work One fully-paid conference (of your choosing) a year Interns are paid incredibly well (as in a substantial % of starting salary) 3D printer available for use Employee-run happy hour once a month "Innovation Hour" every week so you can work on personal projects (and "Innovation Day" once a quarter). Tuition reimbursement Nap pods! Wellness room with semi-regular yoga classes Discounted membership to local gym(s) Two free lunches every week Weekly or bi-weekly meetings with your long term mentor to catch up on how things are going, see what can be done to make things better Employees are encouraged to set and work towards goals, be they personal or career related. Management actually listens to feedback and you can often see the results of them acting on it

Cons

Overwhelming majority of leadership is white and male (I don't dislike any of them, nor do I think any of them are doing a poor job) Sick time and vacation time come out of the same pool 401k match is pretty low Follows industry-standard practice of "the law says we don't have you pay you overtime even if you work 80 hours a week" A small number of employees are overworked Actions sometimes contradict core values, usually in small ways, sometimes in significant ways

Thank you for the thoughtful feedback. Definitely take the 401K matching to heart -- right now we match at 50% up to 6% contributions, but will work on doing better. Stay tuned. Would love additional feedback on dental as that is covered 100%. PTO is a harder one as we are in a client-facing business, but will look at how we can expand over time. The reason we combine sick and vacation time is actually based on employee feedback years ago that folks wanted more autonomy and trust to manage vacation vs. sick time. In terms of team members being over-worked, we try very very hard to avoid that especially over extended periods of time -- we fully understand burnout leads to lower quality work and ultimately departure. Would love some specific feedback to me (TD) on projects where this is an endemic problem, or via our open suggestion box or Ask Me Anything. Also, would love direct feedback on where we are contradicting our core values, as that is something we'd want to address immediately. Thx for the thoughts, and the many positive pieces of feedback as well -- always striving to make this the best place to work in Virginia and North Carolina!

The Best Place to Work

Pros

The best leadership I have ever seen, They are dynamic, democratic and truly care about employee's development. Very inclusive and transparent on promotion and salaries. You got to rotate between clients and projects therefore, learn new things and switch focus without changing company. Very good way to gain experience. Fast growing company thus a lot of opportunities to move up.

Cons

Almost none. The only conservation is the location of office in Durham. The leadership has put in a lot of money in the new office, but it seems they are very persist to have an office in downtown Durham instead of other locations with better safety situation. But other than that, there is no better place to work .

Pros

Transparency is demonstrated well here - from open conversations to an open office layout to interviewing. Process Improvement. No one is ready to settle. Everyone pitches in or takes initiative to make both day-to-day and long-term improvements happen. We are not afraid of change. Employee work/life balance. Tobias (CEO, WillowTree) and Bezos (CEO, Amazon) both preach a common message that there is no such thing as work/life balance. If you love your job and your life and have a company that supports you, they ultimately blend so well together. We definitely experience flexibility from "work from home (as needed)" to flexible hours. Growth. Think about what company has emphasized Recruiting/Branding over Sales/Biz Dev. This is rare! Caring about the people you hire will result in employees that excel in their role. Both Charlottesville and Durham are moving into much larger, and newer offices! Personal Growth. We get Lunch and Learn every Wednesday where internal or external speakers will teach the company on a topic or project they're working on. This is followed by Innovation Hour where employees can drop everything they're working on and focus on Learning and Developing THEMSELVES. Furthermore you get a stipend annually to attend a conference, get a certification, etc to increase your skillset. Getting paid to make yourself better...amazing! Project Teams & Inclusion. Employees sit in an open environment where their project teams and each project team is local to it's office (not spread out between offices). This drives communication and allows for employees to meet more than just employees in their domain of expertise. There are plenty of "groups" outside of the project teams that you can join for Diversity, Board Games, DIY, Meetup, etc... Core Values. First company I've ever worked with that actually walks the talk and puts Core Values above anything else.

Cons

***Not a con but a focus point. As we grow, keep our roots and maintain a mindset of empowering employees! Keep improving, keep growing, keep impressing clients. ***Salaries are low. BUT I know this is being improved. I know benefits are phenomenal along with a company that has an impressive culture and mindset of flexibility.
