Pros
I am a recruiter in Tampa, been with the company 5 years, or am I a manager that works from Mars...doesn't matter. I just want to share my perspective like others before me got a chance to without trying to determine who I am. I have a lot to say and not everything is pro WHCG, just a real look from my point of view.
1. To The favoritism comments: work hard, make your leader look good, find ways to over deliver to your client, look out for your peers, be consistent and show some passion in your actions.....guess what? You'll be the favorite too. This isn't exclusive to WHCG, welcome to the real world (not everyone gets a participation award).
2. That they don't pay the best: won't argue there, this isn't the place I planned to get rich at, at least if I solely focused on my bank account. A lot of us are rich in knowledge and experience we'd never have the chance to gain anywhere else--have the heart to heart with yourself and see what matters most. Can't fault the company for your needs or expectations changing.
3. Work/life balance: if you're a 9-5 employee, nothing wrong with that but this isn't going to be the place for you. I've held a few roles at the company and can't say I ever only worked 40 hours. It's hard at times, but what growing company isn't? Any company in this stage of the business life cycle experiences the growing pains, an employee wearing multiple hats and sensitivity to margins etc. Everyone has their own capacity of what they can handle, that's on you to decide that for yourself. At the end of the day, this requires a desire to roll up your sleeves and build a company--know that going in, expectations are high.
4. No need to be nasty. Some disgruntled employees are simply that. This company is so horrible that it caters lunch in the corporate office every other week, has a beer tap on Friday afternoons, has several incentives such as a CEO of the day contest, annual incentive trips, peer to peer kudos system, paid day off to go volunteer etc. Funny, not a whole lot of mention about that...
5. Great place that invests in millenials' careers. While most companies wouldn't think to give millenials much autonomy, this one chooses to put effort in a robust internship program and if you do well, within your first year you could advance an average of two times or more! The horror!
6. Speaking of not being nasty, the people here, the majority of both past and present are top notch. I've been lucky to be around the industries best global talent acquisition professionals. Those of you that are sour, don't ruin it for those of us still here.
7. They've made mistakes, both big and small. Please name a company that hasn't. At least this one kind of cares about making it better. For example, The CEO has an anonymous email box you can send in ideas or feedback, did you try sending something in? I have and some of my ideas have been implemented.
8. The leaders are intense. They care (sometimes too much) about this company and its people, being successful and growth. Some Handle grace under fire better than others, a few shouldn't lead people and the majority though really are trying to do right by their teams and clients. The managers have too much On their plate and act out at times when overwhelmed. Show the same compassion you'd expect if you were overwhelmed and maybe both sides being more kind would yield better interactions. An opportunity to improve here with senior leadership.
9. Change happens constantly. No sooner do you get the hang of one process before its being changed again. You won't be bored, that's for sure! Some thrive in an ever-changing environment that seeks be innovative some do not like it--you have options.
10. It's a performance driven culture- no matter the role you're in. I've read a lot of reviews griping about this, and I don't get it. They are trying to run a business, so sorry your feelings were hurt because you weren't hitting your Goals. Is doing your job optional these days?
Those are my thoughts. Not putting the company on a pedestal because it's not perfect and surely there have been times where I was ready to head for the hills too.
The thing is, there's a lot of good here; the people, the opportunity to work with big name clients, learn a lot regularly, global exposure, no red corporate tape to get something done...the relationships I've been able to create are invaluable and I wanted to thank the company for taking a chance on me and others.
