Sad – Really Sad!!!

Pros

My pay and benefits are pretty good for a non-profit. 10 percent 401k pension contribution is one of the highest.

Cons

It’s really sad Winrock’s reputation is going down the drain with staff, contractors, funders, and suppliers. Formal non-compliance complaints from our biggest funder and law suits from contractors and staff are at a record high while new business is at a record low. The “Leaders” have managed to blame everyone but themselves for the sad results the past year. How much longer can they keep saying they just need to fire one more long-term staff or hire one more job-hopping friend or consultant. The real reason for all the problems are the vindictive bullies and pompous self-promoters who don’t have a clue on how to lead Winrock.

Pros

work and interact with some intelligent individuals, benefits, work-life balance,

Cons

same management issues as previously stated in some of the other reviews. Morale is very low. Its very obvious that the organization now have an internal person submitting positive reviews to glassdoor (very sad), possibly because of all the negative reviews they have received over the past year. This sends a bad message because we (staff) read these reviews. If you are not in the who's who's network, you don't fit in and they will do what they need to do to get rid of you, i.e., termination. Loosing great, intelligent and dedicated employees (full time, part time and consultants) because they want to bring in their own people. President's office doesn't pay attention to whats really going on in the organization.

Pros

Fundamental strengths remain: global experience, knowledgeable and experienced staff, and history of innovation and thought leadership. Recent critical examination of institutional direction, strengths, and weaknesses resulted in a change initiative that included a new organizational structure and process improvements. This change initiative was likely a good idea to ensure Winrock remains a leader in today’s marketplace. However….

Cons

The execution of the change process has been a tremendous disappointment, and the results to date for the majority of staff remain decidedly unimpressive. Instability at the senior director/senior manager level has contributed to a pervasive feeling of disorientation and lack of appropriate direction. Senior management provides very little information (and even fewer updates) to staff. In a time of constant and significantly disruptive change, the lack of communication with staff is utterly baffling. Result? Rumors, misinformation, and a stressed out, demoralized, distrustful staff who have adopted a posture of “just keeping our heads down”. There seems to be a fundamental disconnect - what management sees as positive direction, many staff see as misguided and ineffective, while priority actions for staff seem to be met with indifference by management. The resulting tension between staff and management is untenable and a morale killer. This is no way to “position for the future”.
