Pros

Atmosphere is very open and friendly. Management is highly competent and shares their vision with the rest of the organization. Excellent benefits and opportunities to do work you want to do.

Cons

Because most of the positions are grant funded there is often a lack of significant advancement in salary and position within the organization. Additionally turnover is very low which reduces upward mobility.

Working at Winrock

Pros

Winrock is a mission driven non-profit based in Little Rock, Arkansas, but with a major office in Arlington, VA and operations all over the world. The Arlington office is full of young, driven idealists and seasoned scientists and development experts, and it is usually a fun and dynamic place to work. Management is generally involved and supportive, the office space is self is new, bright, and pleasant, and the work is rewarding.

Cons

Similar to many organizations, there is a lot of internal competition between groups at Winrock, and information sharing and cooperation doesn't happen as easily or frequently as they should. Junior staff sometimes feel like management doesn't quite understand what the worker bees are doing, or how to best support them. Pay isn't out of line for a non-profit, but it is not generous.

Pros

Great people to work with, strong in-house technical expertise. Great benefits package. Junior employees are given many responsibilities and can learn a lot in limited time.

Cons

A lot of overtime work and little appreciation for the effort. Proposal work is what is valued for promotions, not implementation.
