The experience started out great, but the politics run circles around DC politics.

Pros

The best reason to work at WSSU is the time off during the Christmas holiday. They do require you to use your vacation time to fill in the full 2-weeks, but it is a good perk to have about 2wks off during the holidays.

Cons

No advancement opportunities, but you do get the chance to be assigned additional duties with no pay. You may go for 3-5 years without a raise, while parking, and health insurance premiums go up. Once hired, be ready to accept additional duties of at least 3 other jobs b/c there is no budget to hire additional help. Mgmt is bad about wanting to keep their star employees from seeking out other opportunities within the instituion.

The benefits such as health insurance. Depending on what areas you work in, you may find enjoyment working directly with the students. There is a since of family that is felt on campus

Cons

No professional development or growth opportunities. You may be asked to carry several different roles and responsibilities but with the same pay. The Directors feel superior and as if they don't have to learn policies and procedures. Support staff generally run the departments requiring minimum supervision
