Tough times need leadership

Pros

Great discounts and you get to work with great people who like what they do

Cons

Business is extremely tough. In 5 years I never got a full bonus due to business performance. Goals are set by the executives with out supporting the teams who have to accomplish those goals. Constant layoffs left us with a skeleton crew as stakes got higher and higher.

Pros

Great people Fun brands and products Great location

Cons

Terrible leadership. The WWW leadership team doesn't invest in the brands. They are so focused on themselves and their profits that they strip everything from the brands. It's disgraceful!

Needs work

Pros

The People are the best part of the company. Overall the work environment is lax and the footwear industry is a lot of fun. If you’re fortunate to have a good manager you’re opportunities are endless

Cons

Compensation, lack of career development opportunities, out of touch leadership. Compensation, especially for employees that have been at the company more than 3 years is completely out of whack with market rates. The salaries are comparable to 2014 market rates, not 2022. I’ve been fortunate to have worked with great leaders at Wolverine (all of which were new to the company from other footwear companies) however all of the great leaders I worked for left the company when they realized how difficult it was to implement change, manage the business effectively, and do the most important thing: sell shoes. I didn’t realized how toxic the environment was until I was no longer being guarded by my former leadership. Be prepared for never ending fire drills, most of which are due to sr leaderships lack of proactive planning and not listening to the warnings from the experts below them. Not every area or brand is the same, but there is a lot of gaslighting and toxic behavior, especially when numbers are down. I’ve witnessed approximately 15-20 layoffs (if not more) during my time at Wolverine. I was actually part of a 200 person layoff years ago and was “saved” and moved into a different department.
