Pros

The location is stunning and most of the people on the ground are great. Lovely working environment. LDC investment created more roles and opportunities.

Cons

The car parking rules and clock watching probably sum the place up being stuck in the past. Lack of communication with a clear divide of people some of them still managing with an iron rod and some clearly unengaged. Male dominated board.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to post a review after you have left EW. It is great to hear that you valued the working environment and great people we have here, we really try to make this a brilliant place to work for everyone. It’s also good to hear that the LDC investment that has brought so much change is being viewed as the amazing opportunity we think it is. We have valued the energy and enthusiasm our colleagues have put into growing the business since the investment and hope to continue to deliver greater opportunities in the future for all. In relation to constructive advice, we are always happy to get feedback. In the recent Investors in People audit we were given a silver award overall for our efforts in making EW a great place to work but specifically in the ‘leading and inspiring people’ section, we were awarded a gold standard! This demonstrates our commitment and efforts from the management team to developing a clear leadership structure that supports all colleagues. This award is given based on multiple interviews with randomly selected colleagues throughout the organisation and while from your comments it is understood that you may not feel the management team is doing well in supporting colleagues and communicating with them, we hope it is a minority view. We will continue with our efforts to gain feedback from our colleagues and if communication and management issues arise we will double efforts to improve in these areas. At our Ops Board level we have 7 men and 2 women which is definitely something we want to work on as we move forward. To that end, the next level down in the management hierarchy (Senior Leadership Team) does have a 50 / 50 split of male and female leaders in the organisation. During our recent future leaders programme intake we took 8 colleagues on to provide them with leadership development opportunities which again maintained this 50 / 50 split. Diversity concerns aren’t something that can be changed overnight but we are committed to providing great opportunities to all who have the potential at EW. Finally we understand car parking is always a contentious issue, we are in a great position to be able to provide free parking to all colleague at the Aldford site but to make sure we are able to fit everyone in we need to organise ourselves quite rigidly. While a less stringent approach would make for easier conversations it could potentially also mean not having enough space for everyone to park in each day. To support these issues we have recently looked to apply for planning permission to improve the car parking suitability on site which we aim to complete by the summer of 2018. We genuinely feel colleagues are proud to work at EW and will continue to make this a measure of our success as an organisation. Thank you again for taking the time to leave your review and best of luck in your future endeavours.

Pros

Employee engagement is incredible with BREWS (Body Representing Ellis Whittam). This is made up of everyday staff members from each department. BREWS is responsible for allow the employees to have a voice and to organise fun events to get staff involved. The directors actually AIM to have a great working environment and genuinely want staff to be happy and proud to be at EW. My managers are extremely supportive. EW has a very inclusive atmosphere. This was a little strange to me personally at first as i'm not very forthcoming. However within days I found myself saying "hi" to random people in passing which eventually progresses into conversations. This means eventually you get to have working relationships with A LOT of lovely and interesting people. Every member of staff gets their own desk phone.

Cons

I get the feeling the BDE team don't have the same amazing experience that I have due to it being so target driven however I've never actually heard a complaint... just stresses. Chris can't keep up with refilling the coffee machine enough because we all go through a ton of coffee per day. No mobile phone signal but wifi is provided. The induction is very intense but also very informative. Thank god i didn't start inductions on day 1.

Hi there and thank you for your post. It is great to hear how much you value the work that your colleagues do on BREWS for everyone at EW and how they contribute to making EW a fun place to work with the number of events they lead on. Your reports of an inclusive and friendly culture tied in with very supportive managers is very encouraging. I shared your comments with the Head of our Business Development Executive (BDE) Team. You are right to pick up that the team is target driven and the team thrive on the buzz of being under pressure and achieving great rewards with it! Thanks also for your comments on the EW Induction schedule, we try and get it right for people depending on their role. I would really appreciate it if you would contact a member of the HR Team to tell us more about your induction experience. Thanks again and hope that you continue to enjoy your time at EW.
