Pros

Flexibility/work from home. There are some managers that are actually qualified to be managers and are great. Most of the people hired are kind and go above and beyond to help others when needed.

Cons

Pretty much the entire marketing department is a mess, wouldn't recommend it. 3 heads of marketing in the last 3 years, unqualified management, mass exodus every spring after the annual conference. The reviews mentioning unqualified management especially at the dir level is very true, but it is a generalization. HR team sweeping things under the rug, also true. Not sure that the cons here are any worse than at other organizations, but they are all due to growing pains. The quality of hire 7 years ago was way below where the company looks for talent today, and being slow to fire hasn't helped sales, marketing or any other department. When I first started, we did have a Workhuman culture. we would get beer and snacks to celebrate a company win, and all enjoy them together at 3pm on a thursday, for example. Now, its seems like its all for instagram. The company appears to spend so much money and resources on celebrating Oreo day, bring my kid to work day, arbor day,.... if there's a day, we funnel money into it and make sure its captured on our instagram page. But then you have managers that aren't trained and talent that isn't performing? It seems backwards and superficial, and a ploy to look very cool and attract talent. Overall, i would recommend working here except in the marketing department.

Workhuman is a fast-growing company and with that comes inevitable change over time. We are committed to offering learning opportunities and resources for all so each employee has the chance to develop in their career here. We also take pride in our culture and host many employee events as a way of bringing everyone together as a community to have some fun, celebrate, and connect. It’s important to take time to do this and we’ve received feedback from employees that they really enjoy these opportunities to get together.

Most Awful, Toxic Place I've Ever Worked

Pros

There are some good people at this company- fun, talented, decent people that are good co-workers There is flexibility with hours/time off

Cons

This is a toxic place. There are a group of people in leadership who insist on making this little software company a place full of drama and politics and backbiting. This group has been consistently promoted. The CEO has admitted to setting goals that he knows are not stretch goals, but completely impossible to reach, because he thinks people will not work as hard if they don't have impossible targets. As a result, someone is always being berated for failing against goals that are completely absurd. It is well known that bringing up new ideas or suggesting that anyone in leadership might want to look at something in a different way is a recipe to be completely ostracized, if not ousted. The worst thing about the company is all the "make work more human" stuff they spout, because it is a marketing ploy. This is not a place where people are treated with respect and given paths to grow.

I take your feedback very seriously and ask that you contact me directly to discuss your concerns. What you are describing is not the company I know. The company I know prides itself on respect and treating one another fairly. Our employees consistently report that our culture is extremely positive and unlike any other they have worked in. If you are seeing something I am not, I encourage you to talk with me or a member of the HR team. Without open dialogue we cannot address your concerns. Talking with a member of HR can be done in complete trust, without fear of retaliation, as that is not tolerated. Building a great culture takes constant work, perseverance, and a level of vulnerability. This starts with living our values and supporting one another with behavior that is respectful and unifying. I sincerely hope that you will accept this invitation to meet with me. - Steve Pemberton
