High Paced with the intellectual drive to be successful.
Pros
Zayo is a very high paced environment. Boredom is a rare commodity. Salaries seem to be fair - not breaking any records - but fair. Bonus program is a quarterly bonus structure that contains only a moderate amount of financial wizardry to follow the criteria. Either way - if you have a good quarter, you should get a good bonus. If you have a fair quarter, you still get a fair bonus. This is far better than the once a year bonus that you get at other companies. The reward is close to the period that you worked for it and reflects that effort. The upcoming 2Q 401K match is a big win for the employees. Work from home is available to some workers. This is one of my personal favorites. Being able to work from home gives me 1 hour back that I can either spend with my family or put in a little extra effort to complete a project without straying dangerously into family time in the evening. No one woke up this morning to salt your wounds. Everyone who is successful at Zayo has something in common - they care about their work. Those who don't fit that mold don't last here. Your coworkers are a team that really do care about doing a great job and those who don't have that same drive will just simply not be successful and find another line of work - or even better - go work for our competitors. This is a culture where everyone wants to succeed. Dan Caruso puts a big ask out to the employees to try to improve every quarter with higher and higher returns. He would make a good Keanu in the re-make of the movie Speed.
Cons
One of the downsides is commitment. This culture also requires it's employees to jump in both feet first. To further the movie analogy, the employees are sometimes the passengers on the bus trying to turn a tight corner while maintaining 55 MPH. When Zayo does make a change to it's structure, it must be done without skipping a beat. You will see a lot of people say that there are work/life balance issues or issues taking PTO, but really - those are a side affect of the commitment required to be successful. This company doesn't require you to work that hard, but if you have the drive to be successful and be recognized, those are the side affects. Upward mobility within the company is a little stagnant. I think that's because the people who are in management positions have already made that commitment to Zayo and don't want to jump off the bus while it's moving. It does make it hard to advance, but not impossible. Inter departmental (inter-SPG for Zayoites) communication and team work has drifted off over the past year to coincide with splitting up the financial reporting of each group. Long dead are the days that a team with Field, OSP, ISP, and Engineering would jump on a call to discuss an order and figure out how to do it best for Zayo. Now each group holds it's cards close to the vest and tries to make every order better for their own group. This has become frustrating if you are a consumer of those other services internally. It has created some duplication of efforts rather than leveraging the efforts of every group.
